2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPeople are not going to vote for a "socialist".
Of course, I should preface that by saying that in 2008, I said that people are not going to vote for a black man named Barack Hussein Obama. I was wrong.
But, a lot of people would vote for a socialist, at this time in our history. After the Big Bank and Wall Street Crash of 2008, people are looking at "democratic socialism" with a different eye.
One would hope that a good discussion could come about from Democratic "debates". We, as a Party, need to define just exactly where we stand? Are we "moderates"? Are we "progressives"? Or are we something else? In my opinion, that would be a healthy debate to have.
Personally, I would like to hear just where they differ?

(23,156 posts)for anyone under the age of 40, "Socialist" does mean for them what you think it means. And even a lot of us over the age of 40 don't hear that word as a dog whistle for something to hate.
Really, the entire O!M!G! BERNIE IS A SOCIALIST!!!! Just doesn't have the resonance you might think it does.
