2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHas a Dem candidate ever been booed at a primary debate
in the age of television? It happened tonight, of course, when Hillary said "artful smear." I can't remember it occurring before.

(50,130 posts)Shocking.
She was much more even tempered later in the debate.
I believe the strategy was to make Bernie mad. It did cut him, that was clear. But then the crowd booed her.

(11,945 posts)She seems to have a mean streak. Bernie has no mean streak. He can get angry, but he has never shown any sign of meanness or cruelty.

(24,721 posts)This is another disappointment that I'm seeing in Hillary. She can't snow the Democratic audience; we've been paying close attention. We know bull when we hear it.

(74 posts)I'm pretty sure it was Chris Mathews who mentioned that the audience is selected and each candidate has a certain amount of supporters. There were many students attending this debate - his supporters booed that line, her supporters cheered.

Hmmmmm... must be a smear.

(15,512 posts)I just heard the clip replayed on French public radio and it sounds to me like the crowd is on Hillary's side. Cheers for Hill, boos for Bern.

(3,859 posts)it seems the crowd was booing Clinton. Also, it seemed by her change in tone and body language she indicated the same interpretation of the boos I just stated. She becomes defensive, I think, but your mileage may vary.

(4,868 posts)Nice try though. It's blatantly obvious if you watch the video who they were booing.

(80,708 posts)The over-the-top cheering for some of her most hackneyed, tepid, lame "points"... anyone paying attention could tell there was a solid contingent of Hill Folk in that crowd who clearly were determined - or instructed- to show WE DO TOO HAVE "ENTHUSIASM", dad gumbit!

(458 posts)... I think Sanders was trying to be polite, while making an uncomfortable point... Goldman Sachs is a criminal enterprise. They knowingly and purposely sold rotten investments to pension funds and other investors and made bets against them... making $$ on both ends. If HRC had taken $$ from Maddoff, it would be a scandal... why shouldn't she be called on the carpet for taking dirty money?

(64 posts)Bernie needs to tell her that she has to convince the American public and not him, that taking loads of cash from a nefarious bank is really just 'earned income' and not a bribe. It's not his vote she needs. She never seems to learn and is still planning on going to financial institutions next week with her hat in hand.
Don't be blaming Bernie MS. Clinton.
