Hillary Clinton heading to Flint on Sunday
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton plans to travel to Flint on Sunday to see the crisis with lead-contaminated water firsthand and to urge the U.S. Senate to approve $600 million in aid for the beleaguered city.
While details of her visit werent available Thursday evening, the visit doesnt come as a surprise. Clinton, the former secretary of state and first lady, has been pounding on the Flint water issue for weeks, calling on both the state and federal government to make the situation right.
Shes given multiple interviews on the subject, brought the issue up during a Democratic debate and sent two aides to Flint to meet with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver. On Saturday, she called for one of the Democratic presidential debates to be held in Flint before Michigans primary election on March 8. And the Democratic National Committee agreed, announcing Wednesday that one of the upcoming debates will be held on March 6 in Flint.
Clinton will leave the campaign trail in New Hampshire the first state to hold a primary election next week to make the stop in Flint. Her main purpose, according to the Clinton campaign, is to urge action on an energy bill in the U.S. Senate that the Democrats blocked in order to make sure that the $600-million in funding for Flint was added to the bill.
