Ps- I'm a middle aged woman who is happy to pay higher taxes for lower insurance premiums and I'm also delighted to help out the younger generation pay for college. That's something Democrats do- be forward thinking for the future generations, not calling them greedy takers.

(11,785 posts)but handing lucrative subsidies and tax breaks to major corporations is "good for America"? We pour a vast amount of money into the military-industrial complex, but it's never called "free stuff."

Attitudes like that are really going to get the younger demographic out to vote if Clinton gets the nomination. Just assume they know nothing about the issues. And we all know when there is low voter turnout, the Dems win.

If they are constantly being told right now that they are stupid and only support the candidate because of "free stuff," or because they are naive, or because they are sexist/racist, or whatever the word or the day is, how would that make them want to come out and support the candidate who was saying that or who's supporters were saying that? You can't just beat them up and then say, "well, if you really cared, you'd still vote for this person." That sounds a lot like an abusive relationship.
oasis
(49,387 posts)then, perhaps their not as "issue" driven as they're cracked up to be. Which brings us back to Matthew's "free stuff" as their real motivation.

So that link needs correction or deletion.
On edit: the MSNBC link is dated Jan 17.
I highly suggest that you self-delete this OP, as it appears to be untrue as you present it.

SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)For her to say she will never support single payer, will be the end of her campaign. Not supporting free tuition didn't help her cause either. IMO, she lost a lot more than the debate. All the rest of her baggage just falls in line with the rest of the bullshit.
Shadowflash
(1,536 posts)I never thought I'd see someone in a Democratic primary come out against single payer and say that higher education should not be available to all Americans.
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)are huge to Americans. Why can't the richest country in the world afford this? No one can answer this. And Bernie is the ONLY person to address the elephant in the room. I'm telling you, she's done. Last night was monumental.

(5,106 posts)There's a big difference, especially for students who could commute from home. Some state schools used to have free tuition; notably California BEFORE St. Ronnie Reagan.

(4,775 posts)The Iraq war and its aftermath created ISIS, literally. She has also had her hands in the destabilization of many other nations, which leads to more terrorism, which leads to more U.S. involvement and arms sales, and to more domestic fear and pointing fingers at Muslims. It's all part of the same vicious cycle of violence, one Hillary is a huge part of.
Hillary is one of the most hawkish Democrats. If she wins the nomination, that side of her will be on full display in the general election.

(598 posts)In 1988 your candidacy as a third-party candidate arguably cost the Democrats a congressional seat and sent a Republican instead.
How can you lead the Democratic Party nationally when you have not been a member of the Democratic Party until very recently?
SANDERS: Well, Rachel, actually, that wasn't accurate. In 1988 the Republican did win, I believe, by 3 points. I came in second. It was 34-31, I think, 19 for the Democrat. In that race the Democrat was the spoiler, not me. And it is true...

(13,133 posts)Not much of a surprise for people who know even just a few things about Bernie. That pool probably was thinking there they have chance to get Bernie a moment out of character while hitting him with a gotcha question.
Bernie is Bernie and most everything the guy seems to ever done seems to be done with forethought. I don't think they are going to have much luck with trying to impugn him with that approach.
