The relationship between Hillary and Rahm shows the sickening nature of business-as-usual politics

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has distanced himself from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Hillary Clinton supporter embroiled in criticism after the death of an unarmed black teenager in 2014.

“If the question is, do I want or need Rahm Emanuel’s support for president, with all due respect for the mayor, no I don’t,” Sanders, a Democratic presidential candidate, told reporters Wednesday during a swing through Chicago, according to The Washington Post and other media outlets. Sanders continues to promote his commitment to racial equality in the hopes of winning African-American support.

BUT...

Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, said she still has confidence in the embattled mayor of the city where she was born: Rahm Emanuel of Chicago.
"I do," Clinton told reporters Friday evening in Fort Dodge, Iowa. "He loves Chicago and I'm confident that he's going to do everything he can to get to the bottom of these issues and take whatever measures are necessary to remedy them."

Earlier this week, Clinton called for an independent federal inquiry into the Chicago Police Department's tactics following the shooting death of black teenager Laquan McDonald by a white police officer. That position had initially puts her at odds with Emanuel, until he relented.

SINCE THEN...

She has predictably walked back her support of Rahm Emanuel,
When pressed specifically on Emanuel, she said, "Mayor Emanuel has said that he is committed to complete and total reform and I think he should be held to that standard," adding that it's "going to be up to him and up to the people of Chicago" to prove his credibility.
but even in this, she merely weakened her original statement of support rather than calling for "the resignation of “any elected official” in Chicago who knew that a recording was improperly withheld in the case." as Sanders did.

Then there is the question of why Rahm continues to raise money for Hilary and was doing so as early as 2 years ago. But that is the subject for another thread.
