Free public college is a natural extension of America's tradition of free public schools. It's clear

Nobody would ever talk about a 15-year old having to pay money to go to public school, just so they had "some skin in the game." We shouldn't abide such nonsense talk about "skin in the game" when it comes to a 20-year old who needs to go to college to get the education they need.

used to be poor. The wide availability of student loans let colleges charge more, and they get away with price fixing among themselves as well.

Try blaming someone else.

Calilfornia had virtually free colleges until Reagan took over, and changed the rules by fiat. It had nothing to do with affording the cost, only with political ideology.

But I think we're far from figuring out how this would actually work.

-What is "Wall St. Speculation?"
-Doesn't taxing an activity discourage it?
-How do we control tuition costs?

Why should a blue collar worker be forced to pay higher taxes so that Donald Trumps kids can go to college for free? College is not compulsory the way high school is.

That tax won't affect many blue collar workers but a public financed education will affect the child of that worker.
