http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/las-vegas/high-fashion-expense-hillary-travel"According to her standard speaking contract, Clinton will remain at the event no longer than 90 minutes; will pose for no more than 50 photos with no more than 100 people; and wont allow any press coverage or video- or audio-taping of her speech.
The only record allowed will be made by a stenographer whose transcription will be given only to Clinton. The stenographers $1,250 bill, however, will go to the UNLV Foundation."

(9,497 posts)It is one of things that chips away at people's trust in her.
I can hear the howls of protest of her supporters to the fact that she is the most maligned candidate in all of history and has been attacked for the last three decades...
Well, it is because she isn't transparent. She follows Bill in the arguing of what the meaning of "is" is.
When I am introduced to a person at a network event and they are vague at what they do and want me to join them for an evening event, I am pretty sure they not only want me to buy some product but they may want me to sell it, too. But with the same tactics.
Tell me what you are selling and for how much. Do you want me to convince others or entrap them?
Clarity.

(36,988 posts)The deception with tact
Just what are you trying to say
You've got a blank face, which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece
You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross
Leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet
Do what they say
Say what you mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another
The impression that you sell
Passes in and out like a scent
But the long face that you see
Comes from living close to your fears
If this is up, then I'm up
But you're running out of sight
You've seen your name on the walls
And when one little bump
Leads to shock miss a beat
You run for cover and there's heat
Why don't they
Do what they say
Say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another
One thing leads to another
Then it's easy to believe
Somebody's been lying to me
But when the wrong word
Goes in the right ear
I know you've been lying to me
It's getting rough, off the cuff
I've got to say enough's enough
Bigger the harder, he falls
But when the wrong antidote
Is like a bulge on the throat
You run for cover in the heat
Why don't they
Do what they say
Say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another
One thing leads to another

(4,775 posts)Great find! Release the transcripts! The POTUS makes $400,000 a year, Goldman and others are giving Hillary half that for each speech!
I'm not entirely sure there will be much incriminating in those speeches, I think the speeches are mostly a cover for a money transfer to someone they want favors from. Hillary is smart and probably said come embarrassing things but probably was careful to not say too much that could damage her if it ever got out.
Still, the transcripts would be a step in the right direction. The voting public deserves to know what she is saying to these institutions. The real dirt would be in smaller private discussions, not in these speeches, but we'll never be privy to the smaller discussions (unless of course we get to read them in her email).
The fact that she specified in her contract that there not be any video or audio taping, and that the written transcript be given only to her, tells me she didn't want any scrutiny of these speeches. Let's see what she said, it's only fair.

(2,603 posts)She was doing the speeches, the money was irresistible. However, she wanted to make sure what she said couldn't get out unless she let it out. It was a way to avoid a Romney 47% moment.
That was a brilliant move. It may still backfire on her, but only if we keep the pressure on to force her to release the transcripts.

(2,379 posts)As a medical transcriptionist who's quickly being made obsolete by electronic medical record systems (one of the unfortunate aspects of ACA requirements for me personally -- although I now qualify for Medicaid), I'd like to have a job like this.
Clinton's stay was no longer than 90 minutes. Even if the stenographer had to transcribe the full 90 minutes, $1,250 is a hell of a lot of money. (Although having to sit in on events for Wall St. bankers would suck ... I know, I used to work as a graveyard shift word processor at a Wall St. investment banking firm ... before the end of Glass-Steagall.)

(25,247 posts)And she gets paid not "that's what they offered" but she has a contract and set charges for her speeches - at a rate for colleges and universities which is too expensive -even at the discount - that they have to hire Chelsea instead. In the contract she has clauses for the length of time for the speech, how many pics she'll take, the amount of people she'll take them with, no press coverage, no video or audio taping of the event and that she has these speeches recorded by a stenographer and has transcriptions of these speeches. Those employing her for the speech - pay the steno's bill.
Interesting - drip by drip - the details come out. It's no wonder that as she responded to Anderson Coopers question the other night about these speeches - she backed up as she answered. Interesting body language going on there. If she would have taken any longer to answer that question - she would have backed off the stage.
Chuckie Toad asked if she would release those transcripts. She gave a weasely answer.
I'm of the opinion that if she is asking for my vote - I want to know if she is not telling me one thing and telling the Wall Street bunch something else. She needs to release those transcripts. But I'm wondering just like Bernie Madoff's people rushed to shred his documents when the FBI appeared on the scene - that there is a task going on to sanitize her transcripts before release and she is just buying time for that to happen.
Who do you trust these days?

(82,383 posts)Obviously people try to get you to stay longer and longer - pose with more people - it can't go on past a reasonable amount of time. The bill paying it part of the deal, if they don't want to pay it, they can negotiate some other part of it. Why should it be taped - if her time is worth money, why does she have to allow tapes of it to be out there and being used? You wouldn't say that of a band that taped a concert performance. It's pretty much equivalent to that.
