In 2007 and 2008, we were told that Senator Obama lacked foreign policy experience.

Remember this?

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama’s offer to meet without precondition with leaders of renegade nations such as Cuba, North Korea and Iran touched off a war of words, with rival Hillary Rodham Clinton calling him naive and Obama linking her to President Bush’s diplomacy.
Older politicians in both parties questioned the wisdom of such a course, while Obama’s supporters characterized it as a repudiation of Bush policies of refusing to engage with certain adversaries.
It triggered a round of competing memos and statements Tuesday between the chief Democratic presidential rivals. Obama’s team portrayed it as a bold stroke; Clinton supporters saw it as a gaffe that underscored the freshman senator’s lack of foreign policy experience.
“I thought that was irresponsible and frankly naive,” Clinton was quoted in an interview with the Quad-City Times that was posted on the Iowa newspaper’s Web site on Tuesday.

till, some Democrats say they need a more seasoned nominee who's prepared to tackle foreign policy issues such as the war in Iraq and dangerous relationships with Iran and North Korea.

Obama's inexperience is "the big question mark" about his candidacy, says Rep. Beth Arsenault, a Democrat who was just elected to the New Hampshire Legislature.

"It's not a deal-stopper necessarily," she says, "but two years in the Senate? It's not a lot."

Obama opposed the war in Iraq, though he was not in the Senate at the time, and argues that his position shows his good judgment. Clinton voted to support it in 2002. She now calls for a withdrawal of U.S. troops.

"It amuses me lately how some folks in Washington have been talking about: 'Well, we're not sure that Obama's got enough experience in foreign policy," he said in a speech.

"These same folks who are talking about a lack of experience are the same folks who joined up with (President) George Bush and said this (the war in Iraq) was a good idea, that somehow we were going to be made safer, that we are going to be greeted as liberators, that are going to create a democracy in Iraq. Who's inexperienced?" he said.

Snip.

Sen. Barack Obama's perceived lack of experience may be a huge obstacle to his chances of winning the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a CBS News poll released Wednesday.

Snip.

Clinton is also seen as being more electable than Obama, and some voters think Obama's race and even his name may be a problem for him next November.

More than half of voters (51 percent) think Obama, a first-term U.S. senator from Illinois, does not have the right kind of experience to be a good president, compared with 29 percent who think he does.

On the other hand, 59 percent of voters think Clinton, the former first lady and a two-term senator from New York, has the right experience, while 35 percent think she does not.

Foreign policy - experience vs inexperience - subject of debate in '07 and '08 and here we go again in 2016.

He trusted her, underscored her foreign policy experience, and hasn't looked back since.

It's why he'll endorse her as his preferred candidate when the time is right.
