She doesn't understand why people have a problem with that?

(9,865 posts)I mean worries me anewnow that there's a call for transcripts. What's to keep them from "fixing" up the written words? And taking out the problematic words with no recordings to check against?
Were people allowed to take notes? Were they patted down before entering to make sure they didn't have recording devices? including cell phones?

When she made these speeches, she was a private citizen and had as much a right to do so as any citizen.

(38,613 posts)I'm starting to disbelieve every word she says at this point. It's the only rational position to assume she's not being truthful.

(4,259 posts)No. That's what she insisted on. $300,000. Cheap!

(10,751 posts)...and the University pays $300,000 with the special University discount? That's quite a deal.
Reminds me of chocolate rations for some reason...

(1,680 posts)When officials at the University of California at Los Angeles began negotiating a $300,000 speech appearance by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the school had one request: Could we get a reduced rate for public universities?
The answer from Clintons representatives: $300,000 is the special university rate.
The documents show that Clintons representatives at the Harry Walker Agency exerted considerable control over her appearance and managed even the smallest details from requesting lemon wedges and water on stage to a computer, scanner, and a spread of hummus and crudité in the green room backstage.

Edited to add - There really wasn't much on there besides a description of her credentials. All the links that were embedded were defunct so there was no way to check fees etc. It wouldn't have done a lot of good anyway.

(16,179 posts)I have a bit of a problem with getting paid a lot to give speeches in between holding public offices.
Her time is worth a lot. If she flies somewhere, prepares for the speech, pays her travel and assistants, and puts her name on the line as an affiliation with some company or institution.. Well, in power circles those things are worth a lot. Like sports celebrity endorsements. Just having a famous person as a speaker carries certain prestige.
But public servants ought to be held to a higher standard.
