2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNow Bernie Sanders is pissing off Senate Democrats? He won't be able to get anything done.
But now, after his near-upset in Iowa and an expected victory next week in New Hampshire, it's beginning to look like open season on Sanders for Senate Democrats.
They're criticizing his platform as naive, taking exception to his criticism of Clinton as a fake progressive, and imploring the media to put the Vermont independent and self-described democratic socialist under the microscope.
<...>
Some went further, saying Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats but identifies as independent, isn't really a Democrat..
"Hillary's a progressive in the way she views the issues every day," said liberal Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.). Bernies a Democrat some days. And thats a fact with evidence.
All of us are laughing going like, How did we become establishment? McCaskill said. Ive been fighting the establishment my whole life. It feels weird that theyre dismissing all of the senators that are supporting Hillary Clinton by kind of lumping us into some category that most of us find distressing and unfair.
We know the Republicans in Congress won't work with him and now Senate Democrats are going after him?
How can Bernie possibly get anything accomplished as President if almost nobody in Congress likes him?
Not a single one of his colleagues in the Senate has endorsed him. That's saying a lot. He will need allies in the Senate if he wants to get free college and single payer healthcare through Congress.
Bernie's "political revolution" has already failed IMO.
Jackie Wilson Said
(4,176 posts)idea of being establishment and then says she has spent her life fighting the establishment, I get sad and am reminded that yes they are all part of the establishment, INCLUDING Bernie.
This outsider nonsense has to stop, nobody running for the White House in 2016 is an outsider and that includes Trump who has been buying politicians for decades.
Focus on electing either Bernie or Hillary, everybody, please.
Focus on understanding what is at stake if you dont.

(45,319 posts)That they would do to him what the Republicans like to do to Obama? That is a very serious assertion about them.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)I sure as hell wouldn't.
Bernie would receive a smack back of epic proportions.
He's already "Berned" bridges so to speak.

(45,319 posts)to the WH. Bernie is the only current national politician that has not insulted my community to score bigot brownie points. So to me Claire sounds privileged and whining.
Additionally this is a woman who often touts the fact that she regularly votes against the Democrats because she's a moderate, and she speaks rather eloquently about the fact that the Senate is designed to force unlike minds to take united action. She's 'reached out' to many Republicans while chattering about the need to work with people you do not agree with. So if she was to obstruct a Democratic President because she favored the other candidate she'd be a huge hypocrite.
And remember, she was Obama Mama in 08, calling Bill Clinton's honesty into question as he campaigned for Hillary. She opposed Hillary strongly then. As so many of Hillary's supporters did. It is unfortunate that so many called them dishonest or potentially so as Claire did because that indicates that her primary mode is extreme and not really tied to her reality. 'She's dishonest, she's honest, he's not honest, he is honest, I'm Claire McCaskill and my word is like a feather in the wind'.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)That's too bad.
If someone poked me in the eye I wouldn't want to work with them anymore.

(11,197 posts)One thing about many Senators and Congress Persons is that they love their cushy job enough that Maybe, just maybe...they will come to see things 'differently'.
So you can ask for all the names you want, but you know what? It doesn't really matter.

(20,450 posts)Republicans? It's not happening.
There aren't enough liberal/progressive Democrats in either chamber.
So again, how is Sanders going to get the support for single payer, free college tuition, and a $15 minimum wage?
Where are the votes???

As for the "Establishment" meme, Sanders has been in Congress for 30 years. How is he not Establishment?

(20,450 posts)How is a guy who's spent his entire professional career in Washington, D.C., not an insider or part of the Establishment?
And mind you: I like Bernie. I even see him from time to time over on Capitol Hill during lunch. He's friendly, approachable and very talkative.
But the assertion that he's NOT part of the Washington Establishment is laughable.
Wilms
(26,795 posts)You prefer to ignore every relevant metric and repeat about his time in office as if it proves your point.

(22,340 posts)they are horrible people who were never really Democrats and will be the cause of every bad thing that happens.
But when Democrats say that they won't work with the president that would be elected as a Democrat, they are proof that that Democrat shouldn't be president?
1. This makes my head spin.
2. This is so fucking laughable; you couldn't write this for a sitcom and have it be believed, but here it is.

Claire is swiftly approaching her 3d anniversary as a supporter of equal rights, having formerly been one of the longest and most intense opponents of civil rights for some minority groups in this Party. She and Hillary are the Holdout Twins and they defended that special status for their own to the last.

(880 posts)With the scale of social problems that we are facing, it's time for all current office holders to look squarely in the mirror and take responsibility. Votes for war in Iraq, deregulation, bank bailouts, failures to use the supermajority in 2009 to get some additional progressive actions done - this is the reality. Sanders is the messenger - but the mess belongs to all of us. Barbara Boxer's hurt feelings are the least of our concerns. We are in a battle for the future of our country. So we need to leave the pity party behind and have the political debate we need to have so we can DO SOMETHING!!

(45,319 posts)examples of things she's said and done that I do not like. I posted that video because you pulled 'Cool story bro' crap at me so I plastered her there saying the very thing you cast doubt upon. If you did not do that rude 'bro' shit and 'cool story' Claire would have been spared the video testimony but you asked for it. You got it. McCaskill.
If you play nice, others will too, if you play mean, that's what you will get. Question my honesty and call me 'bro' and I'll post Claire being trashy toward Bill, even as she says she's taking his help, which is the actual point. She insults people she is actually working with, which you repeatedly say no one does. Bill and Claire obviously both do. Think about it,

(30,439 posts)My OP presented various Senate Democrats who are not happy with Sanders, Claire being one of several.

(15,435 posts)THIS Is Why So Many DEMOCRATS Are Fed Up With OUR Democrats in Congress!
They haven't been there for us, they have about a 7% approval rating, they almost to a person are "on the take" and THEY DON'T WANT TO HAVE THEIR Apple Carts UPSET!
HOW DARE THEY!!!! How long have we been complaining about them, calling them, writing them, calling them SPINELESS as we've watched them ROLL OVER time and time again!
F--king SCREW THEM 10 times over or more! Suck on a ROCK or stick it up your A--!
KICK THEM OUT! How VERY pious of them. I've called Senator Bill Nelson here in FL so many times it drives me crazy! What have we gotten? Almost a huge ZERO!
Get a clue you S--tHeads!!
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)Took her until March of 2013 to stop opposing the idea that others should have rights she was born with. That's why she's seen as the establishment, she has been a great opponent of progress and a champion of the status quo. That and her status as 12th richest Senator clearly mark her as establishment. She's Big Rich, but of course always taking donations!

(30,439 posts)Not sure why this is so difficult for you to grasp.
My OP is about Senate Democrats who are unhappy with Sanders, McCaskill being one of several.
You really should try reading the article before replying.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)that you command others. Your own article and thread cite McCaskill, you offered her up. I don't have to address just the portions you demand I address, I can take on the bit of crap I am most ardent to oppose and in this case it is Claire's claiming there is no reason to see her as the establishment. She is the establishment and she has been for most of her career worse than that, an opponent of equality for all people. I do not dig anti equality mindsets and I will always counter them, no matter how much that bothers you. Plus you have been rude to me in this thread and doubted my word and called me 'bro' while doing so. I read the piece, and I grasp it well of course but you can't respond to what I'm saying so again you insult me.
If you find that you are insulting people who are making actual points to you, that's a good time to reflect on your choices.

(5,252 posts)Hillary supporters are in denial about this. And if they're not, they're delusional. I see a Sanders election as a sign of things to come. By 2020, he'll pull those suckers to the left - JUST LIKE HE DID HILLARY - or they'll be replaced by more progressive Democrats.
