Claire McCaskill's Husband's Firms Received Almost $40 Million In Federal Subsidies
Businesses affiliated with the husband of Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill have received almost $40 million in federal subsidies for low-income housing developments during her first five years in office, but McCaskill's campaign said Tuesday that none of that money made it into the family's personal bank accounts.

All of us are laughing going like, How did we become establishment? McCaskill said. Ive been fighting the establishment my whole life. It feels weird that theyre dismissing all of the senators that are supporting Hillary Clinton by kind of lumping us into some category that most of us find distressing and unfair.

DanTex
(20,709 posts)Look, if you want to change your mind and now claim you have a complicated return, fine with me. In that case you understand that refilings aren't uncommon, and certainly not remotely the same as cheating taxes. So you've been playing dumb the whole time.
Hey, maybe you even own an airplane. Congrats!
LittleBlue
(10,362 posts)People who make as much money as Claire McCaskill and her husband don't just make $300k mistakes. They have experts paid $500/hour who take care of their taxes. This was a basic error on property taxes that any first-year tax associate would have known.
If she didn't file the property tax, it's because she didn't want to pay and wagered that nobody would find out. Property taxes on multi-million dollar aircraft aren't something that those kinds of people just miss.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)For example, people like Claire McCaskill don't intentionally evade taxes. Why? Because that would be stupid. It could mean prison time if caught, which nobody wealthy is willing to risk for a few dollars, and even if not, it means the end of her political career. Even if it's not proven to be intentional, it still means refiling, and possible fines, and for her, the political hit. She doesn't need 300K, to do this intentionally would just be stupid, and she's not that.
But I don't think you are a CPA, or at least a competent one, and this is because of your theory that she "wagered that nobody would find out." LOL. Please tell me that if you have clients making several million dollars a year, particularly if they are public figures, that you tell them they should expect their IRS filings to be scrutinized. If you aren't doing that, you should look for another line of work.
