Hillary Clinton is very excited and hopeful about Iraq's future.
Great experience and judgment on foreign affairs.

Sorry you don't like the imagery. War is not pretty.

(39,909 posts)until public opinion turned against the war, Then she tried to lie her way out by claiming Bush exceeded her authority given in the AUMF.
The first thing a sociopath does it try to blame somebody else.
So, Hillary, are you REALLY going to claim the the Village Idiot from Crawford Fooled You?
If what she claims is true, then she is not competent to hold ANY Public Office.
We should ALL be supporting the people who got it right the first time.

(980 posts)She voted for the war and then almost 9 years later she is talking about how the oil in Iraq is a business opportunity for US corporations. She's a democratic running for president. It's not just Hillary that has to defend that position. Democrats have to explain why one of our candidates was for the war in Iraq and 9 years later she was talking about the business opportunities because of that war.
That's a position I don't want to be in.

(10,751 posts)...and I also, along with millions of others, saw through the lies. So that excuse hardly inspires confidence in her as it requires us to believe she was quite gullible.
IMO Hillary saw through the lies too, but made a political calculation that it would be useful for her to appear "strong" rather than "weak", and to show that she would be as willing as any man or any Republican to project American power.
I could be wrong about that. But if so, and if she was not so gullible as to be fooled by GWB's lies, what does that leave us with? It leaves us with someone who is a hawk -- who agreed in principle with the illegal and disastrous invasion of Iraq. And that is the worst of three bad options, IMO.
I will just add one thing. She made an impassioned floor speech when she made her vote, and she defended that vote for a long time. Only when it became evident what a disaster that illegal invasion turned out to be, and that public opinion had turned against it -- only then did she finally admit it had been a "mistake".
Her hawkishness, for me, is the #1 reason I do not want her as President.
bvar22
(39,909 posts)and many stood and voiced their opposition to what THEY knew was permission to invade Iraq.
Once again, you have demonstrated that all her "experience" is worth squat.
It is good judgement that counts, and THAT is what I want in the Oval Office.
I will vote for someone who got it right, not the one that the Village Idiot from Crawford fooled.
Hillary turned her back on the Majority of Democrats,
walked across the aisle to the Republican side, and helped Bush and Cheney get their War On!!
Of course, we all remember that after Bush launched the invasion, Hillary was FURIOUS with Bush,
and took out Full Page Adds in newspapers across the country condemning Bush for exceeding his authority granted by her vote. She also appeared on all the talking head shows angrily confronting the Bush Administration for exceeding their authority, and called for the arrest and trial of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld for abusing the authority and LYING to Congress.
.
.
.
Oh wait.
That NEVER happened,
but that is what an honest person would have done if they really believed that Bush had fooled them and exceeded his authority.
Here is a list of Democrats that, according to you were smarter than Hillary:

(11,945 posts)Iraq's oil belongs to Iraq and should be used for the benefit of the Iraqi people. If they want to trade with other countries, they should be free to do so as they deem best.
Your constant accusations of Bernie supporters as anti-capitalist and pro-communist sound very much like what we hear from older Americans whose opinions reflect Cold War attitudes. Your opinions are commonplace among a certain set of Republicans.
America is not a "capitalist" country. Capitalism is an economic system and our founders did not create an economic system; they created a political system. America is a democratic republic as delineated in our Constitution. There is no mention of capitalism in our Constitution.
Bernie supporters believe in democracy. That's why we want to rid our government of the influence of great wealth.
I doubt you are very "confused" by Bernie supporters.
But of course your concern is always welcome.

(11,945 posts)I did not criticize capitalism. Where do get that from?
I don't think we are a "capitalist" country -- because there's nothing in our founding documents that says we are capitalist country.
You seem to be interpreting what I write from a rightwing anticommunist position that assumes you're talking to a communist. Well, you're not talking to a communist, nor even a dictionary definition socialist. But neither am I a rabid free market lassaiz faire capitalist.
I'm probably far more "center" than you.

You seem to be unfamiliar with the long, long list of countries in South America, Central America, Asia, Africa, and the Mideast that have suffered when more developed nations, ours included, viewed them as business opportunities.
Not an attack. Just being honest here.

There were plenty of reputable inside DC people tearing their hair out and screaming to the rafters that Saddam had no WMD. You've heard of Joe Wilson, and Larry Wilkerson, for starters, haven't you?
Just on the face of it, you do not give war powers to people like Bush and Cheney without deeply checking out the advise of the opposition. Do you think HRC is a naif?
And lastly, anyone who invades a major oil country in the hornet's nest of the Middle East has damned bad, uninformed judgement and shouldn't be trusted to exercise it ever again.

(9,314 posts)That decision, the one to give Bush* the authority to invade Iraq, was an issue thoroughly discussed at DU. I said at that time Hillary was supporting the war because she had in mind to run for president. She did not want to appear to be weak to the voting public, so she supported this preemptive war. I made the statement I would never vote for anyone to be President who supported giving Bush* the authorization to attack Iraq. Many, many people here believed Bush and Cheney were lying to the public. Many.

That this is 2011.
The Iraq vote was 2002. 9 years earlier.
But it was not until 2014 when she started her campaign for president that she admitted her "mistake". She knew it hurt her against Obama and had to diffuse it. Now she can say "yeah, I said it was a mistake".
As you can see, in 2011, 9 years after her "mistake", she was still very excited and hopeful.
