2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe real Democratic primary poll THE LATINO VOTE
Clinton also enjoys a significant lead in the contention for the nomination of her own Democratic Party. Of the Hispanic voters interviewed, 73% state that they would vote for her, while none of her Democratic rivals approaches showing double digits. Of those interviewed, 68% have a favorable opinion of the former Secretary of State, 26% have an unfavorable opinion, and only 6% do not know her or have not formed an opinion about her, according to Univisions exclusive survey. In contrast, 68% do not know or have not formed an opinion about Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Clintons nearest opponent in the battle for the Democratic nomination, and 74 per cent do not know or have no opinion about former Maryland Governor Martin OMalley, another important Democratic rival for Clinton. Joe Biden, who has not yet declared his candidacy, receives a favorable opinion from 50% of Hispanic voters. But even he has problems among this voter constituency. Despite having been Vice President of the United States for well over six years, 24% of Hispanic voters do not know who he is or have not yet formed an opinion about him.

(10,836 posts)Did I not just read a headline post at DU stating that the Latino vote was turning to Saint Bernard? Only thing, I could not find any verification of the poll so listed. Beyond the one stated above: overwhelming support for Hillary Clinton. Oh my.
So, we're into magical numbers, wishful thinking and invented polling for a candidate touted as noble and pure and beyond reproach.
I suspect Sanders supporters are not doing the man any favors with their hyperbolic comments. Earlier today, I read about John Lewis being trashed for his vocal support of the Clintons. That includes Hillary, btw. Now we have mythical polls being cited.
Thank you, William for setting the record right. The time for vetting of facts and claims is at hand.

(58,785 posts)in flux, but it seems reasonable to assume that these months Sanders spent mostly talking to liberal whitey-white IA and NH voters will not have changed national Latino attitudes all that much. Less "Quien?," more interest in the possibility of another option, though.
artislife
(9,497 posts)Now this really isn't "reality based" thinking, is it now?
Think about it. You are trying to defend an 8 month old poll as valid. As valid.
Latinos don't follow the primaries unless they have the candidate in front of them? BS.
I think me and my community paid attention to the whole Abuela thing plus, even if some of the country doesn't think we are legal citizens, we DO. This being involved in multiple issues and the vetting process is not a quote you "whitey-white" action.
As I think about it, I get more offended.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)not spin, Artislilfe, which is more than I can say for your surprisingly twisted version of what I said.
Over the years we have lost track of all our close Hispanic friends in California, died off, divorced, moved, remarried and changed names, children grew up and lifestyles changed, etc., and I miss their viewpoints -- and those of their relatives, who often spoke of things like knees destroyed from all their years working the fields, disapproval of those here illegally and resentment at being classed with them in conservative minds, etc.
But notably, they did have viewpoints, strong, usually pragmatic ones. They were both mainstream and outside of it and weren't such easy marks for a zippy campaign commercial or two. They also trended conservative, even when registered Democrat; and even those who were liberals tended to be moderate. They did tend to be strongly conformist, overall, most refusing to let their children speak Spanish, and I've wondered how much that might have changed.
Those still around and observing will still be much the same today, though, no big, frivolous swings from candidate to candidate. I don't know what your "community" is like, but mine mostly settled on their preferences as a group early on, with few "renegades." Many probably didn't vote, even of those who could, but it wasn't because they were too dizzy from swinging back and forth with each commercial or campaign promise.
All a way of saying I'd expect today's versions to be interested in Bernie and some to have decided to support him, but the data in that poll to still be more reflective of today's positions than otherwise. More Bernie, but still mostly valid.
Btw, Hillary IS an abuela and already had another nieta on the way when she made that remark. It was taken uncharitably by many, not without reason, though especially by some who already didn't like her, but I'm sure she was also speaking from her heart. This woman, a Yale Law grad who chose as her specialty the despised orphan child of the legal profession -- family and child law -- is a long-time believer in family and that "it takes a village." And she loves being a grandma.
artislife
(9,497 posts)I think if you replace Latino for African American in your post, you might be able to hear it.
And you were still trying to deflect a poll that was 8 months old.
It is all kind of dishonest and deflection.
ETA: My community? Let me start with my brother and his girlfriend. They have been fighting on the legal side against ICE and all the immigration crap thrown not only at the Latino population but at South Asians, Middle Easterners, and Africans for decades. They have marched and rallied at least 5 times a year. They bring in health care to at risk populations. So the Latinos who are close to me are "radical", the are engaged and do not want the same old same old and most of them are not tied to the Catholic Church. That was my grandmother. She stayed with an incredible abusive man because she didn't realize this was the Hell everyone was warning her about.
The rhetoric of the last ten years against the Latino population has been pretty vile. We have only just recently been replace by "Jihadists on our soil" as the boogie man. Trump didn't come up with something new, he just tapped into it.
This is why I feel a kinship especially for all the brown people who get shit, like Sikhs, Muslims, Guatemalans. Moroccans etc. Because we are all interchangeable and easily targeted for someoneelse's agenda.
You seem to really highlight the generational divide.

(9,497 posts)You are cheering someone on who has presented an old poll from over 6 months ago instead of just admitting that he thought it was a new one and misposted. People who cannot admit a mistake are often too proud to acknowledge any weakness. They do this, not understanding this is one of the top weaknesses to have.
"I did not have sex with that woman"
" They have weapons of mass destruction"
"Dewey has been defeated."
and one old, stagnant poll from June of last year.

(83,828 posts)Hill supporters are not welcome here. We got that loud and clear. I have things I could say to make my case. Politely and respectively. Sadly I will get a hide. We sneeze and we get a hide.
I find it amusing the rants that say Hill supporters will not have a discussion and will not make their case. Why bother. You have given us hide after hide which results in time out. How can we speak? Then we come back and you hide us again and again.
Sadly this is not an Democratic board. Only the majority has a voice.
Do you not find that sad?

.Bill that she supported and advocated for, falls disproportionately on Latino and AA communities because the system was taken out of Federal control and turned over to the states. Do you know what happened to minorities in the South? Guess.
The same with the Clinton Welfare Reform Bill. Even though more white families are on welfare than minority families, AA and Latino families were hit harder because the "strict" guidelines fell more harshly on these families.
Why do people keep voting against they own best self interest?
