2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRomney DIDN"T work across the aisle in MA as he claimed in the debate
The only exception was healthcare
In the debate Romney said he worked across the aisle. It seems that was mostly on healthcare and not much else.
Health care was a rare exception where he worked with the legislature in his state, according to Widmer.
Widmer says the legislature was frustrated usually with Romney because he wanted to govern like a CEO and didnt pay heed to the legislature and they resented that.
He says it was very different than one of his predecessors and now a big support, Bill Weld who did work with Democrats in the state.
MA has a "weak governor" system--it's amazing what can get done WITHOUT the governor.
When the governor and the legislature are motivated, things run well. When the governor is an asshole and the legislature is single-minded, shit still gets done...it just takes a bit longer.

(4,452 posts)I think it was on KPFK where legislators were saying that Rmoney's gubernatorial office was more like a kings castle surrounded by a moat. It even had the velvet rope in front of the office door. Private security, that were just friends acting like SS. This guy is too full of himself to do anything for anyone else.

(4,551 posts)So why didn't Obama call him out on it?!
Mitt keeps talking about how he worked with Democrats and how beloved he was in Massachusetts.
Obama needs to mention the following:
1. Mitt was only elected because he lied to the people of MA about who he was
2. He announced half-way through his term that he wasn't running again so that he could visit Iowa and prepare to run for President by spending 200 days outside the state during his term
3. Approval rating fell to 34% by the end of his term
4. MA legislature overode HUNDREDS of Romney's vetoes with their Super Majority
5. Voters rejected Mitt after he left by giving Deval Patrick a large win
6. Romney registered to run for President 2 days before his MA term ended
7. Harvard and the other educational institutions in MA that Mitt took credit for were in existence long before his measly 4-year term in office and will be in existence long afterwards

(14,574 posts)Obama noted that Mittens has promised to repeal Obama Care and numerous other measures that the democrats in congress fought LONG AND HARD for on THE FIRST DAY IN OFFICE! while also saying he will sit down with them on the first day to start working with them.
He said, how is that going to go.
A very well reasoned point, lost in all the breathless screaming of how horrible he was.
