Doesn't this evidence prove that Bernie is the person in the photo?

Look at these four pictures take by the photographer, Lyon. Clearly, they are of Bernie on the day of the sit in. Then, look at the clothes Bernie is wearing--dark chenille sweater, white shirt underneath, dark pants, shoes with tassels

Then, look at the photo in question, below; (where Sanders is standing up). This is the photo of Bernie that some are saying is not Bernie. In this photo, Bernie is wearing the same clothes--chenille sweater, white shirt, dark pants and shoes with tassels.

ALL OF THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN ON THE SAME DAY, AT THE SIT IN.

Does this prove that the photo in question--of Sanders standing--is indeed, Sanders?

Bernie Sanders photo at University of Chicago. Could someone please share where this was debunked?

As far as I am aware, we have the Washington Post, Time, and the University of Chicago all saying that this is not Bernie Sanders in this photo. The most recent being Jonathan Capehart's column in the Washington Post yesterday.

I have now seen two references to this on DU which were both hidden by jury. In both cases, the alerter and jurors voted to hide the post using justifications indicating that it was debunked. In one case a link was provided which (as far as I could tell) did not actually debunk it. ...

is outweighed by some classmates' opinions that they recognize a different classmate that they last saw 50 years ago.

It's really rather pathetic, that they're giving greater credence to people's 50 year old memories of a relative stranger over the physical evidence of the photographer who was actually there and recorded the events. And, btw, also insinuating that either 1. Bernie doesn't recognize a photo of himself or 2. that Bernie is lying about a photo he claims to be himself.

Very much reminds me of rightwingers dismissing evolution as "just a theory" versus their "theory" of creationism.

Sally Cook, the retired government lawyer University of Chicago alumni who contacted the University of Chicago archives to get the caption of the photo changed, conceded to Time magazine reporter Sam Frizell that she could not "say for certain the man is not Sanders."

So what made it so important to her that she felt she needed to change the caption in order to identify the individual at a 40+-year-old sit in as some long dead acquaintance rather than as Bernie Sanders?

Who then told Sam Frizell, Time magazine's Clinton pool reporter, about this trifling photo flap? What induced Sam Frizell to devote 1000 words to this complete non-story without making any attempt to contact the original photographer?

What then induced the WaPo's Jonathan Capehart, the live in partner of a rich Clinton campaign staffer, to pick up this complete non-story and spin it into a direct attack of Sanders' integrity without making any attempt to contact the original photographer?

Why did corporate cable news then trot out Capehart on 10 different shows to promulgate this complete non-story?

Capehart from the Washington Post insisted that people "Stop sending around this photo of Bernie Sanders."

He also said, "But that’s not Bernie Sanders in the photo. It is Bruce Rappaport."

Capehart ended his article with this, "What’s at issue is Sanders’s misleading use of a photograph to burnish already solid credentials. For a candidate who garnered 92 percent of New Hampshire Democratic voters who said the most important trait for a candidate was that he or she be “honest,” the least his campaign could do is remove that photo from its Tumblr feed and stop physically placing him where he existed only in spirit.

30. There's no question Bernie was active in the Civil Rights movement.
Fri Feb 12, 2016, 05:51 PM
Feb 2016

But I also believe the following:

1) It's clear that, for whatever undoubtedly legitimate reasons the young Bernie had, he did most of his activism north of the Mason-Dixon line. He protested several different issues that were undoubtedly and rightly important to him and to his local community, and he deserves full credit for the activism he did.

2) There's no doubt that John Lewis is a hero, and his answer pointed out that he was doing work in the South, where while many brave white people came South to help, the environment was VERY different than Chicago, Illinois. I don't know if Bernie was one of those brave people too, or if the fact he himself, for whatever reasons, couldn't do that was what made him decide to do the activism where he could rather than sit out.

3) I don't think John Lewis was trying to suggest Bill or Hillary were involved down South in the 60's themselves and/or Bernie's activism wasn't worthy of praise -- we all know they weren't there. I think his "I met" statements were referring to the fact the Clintons did reach out heavily to the Congressional Black Caucus once they were on the national stage, and that he's far more familiar with their work more recently than he is with Sanders at all.

4) This line of attack is merely going to divide our electorate -- whether the attacks are against Bernie or John Lewis. We have already seen media coverage of tweets from people reacting to these comments inappropriately.

5) Even if I am a Hillary supporter, our candidates are essentially tied and we have 48 more primaries/caucuses to go. I don't want to damage anyone who might be our nominee. This isn't a subject that we should get distracted by.

We are told to not believe what is clearly in front of our eyes. We are to question Mr. Lyons who in his own right risked his own life to travel to the south and photograph the Civil Rights Movement. It's just so sad to me that it's our side resorting to these machinations. Go Bernie. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep up the good fight like you have all your life. There will never be another one like you in my lifetime.

I will not be forced to vote for the lesser of two corporate evils. Go Bernie Go.

He was involved with civil rights, I'm aware of that. I don't need a photo to tell me that...

Honestly I'm not really sure why there are so many OPs on this topic currently.

55. You may not understand the issue. The claim is that the Sanders campaign is lying.

You must understand that. There were lots of people who didn't think Swiftboating Kerry was anything to be afraid of. He was a hero and the GOPukes tore him down.

Now Sanders has a reputation for honesty. Democrats and the media are trying to tear him down.

The man who took the photo says it was Bernie and sent out other photos that back up his claim.

The attackers STILL maintain the claim.

It isn't that he was involved in the Civil Rights Movement. It is that THEY ARE LYING and THAT just adds to the widespread suspicion of HRC and her gang.

It was one thing when it happened to Kerry, a whole nuther thing when it is committed by Hillary.

The hypocrisy is astounding

Either way this won't hurt Bernie in any way.

I actually think he will probably be the nominee at this point.

I never took part in any of this in the past, I'm seeing it with fresh eyes, Bernie hasn't had to "Spin" not one thing the whole election.

Every time she thinks she has him in a corner, he backs her up with Historical fact and references coupled with sane decisions as to why he acted. Then she starts slow blinking him.....

It's been like this since the first debate. He won't engage in mud slinging and sticks to HIS message.

Come over, it's inevitable that Bernie is going to win the nomination, you shouldn't pain yourself so by sticking to a candidate that just isn't right for the job. She wasn't right in 2000, 2004, 2008 and now in 2016....

The only place I have even seen this story reported today is on DU.

To be fair I spent a good portion of my day in Canada... But DU seems to be the only place talking about this.

This is a meh issue, Samders campaign probably isn't lying, why would they? So it's moot to me.

"I just don't see the issue".....

You could be shown a video of Hillary clubbing a baby seal and your response would be the same.

Oh, and btw, this story is hitting critical mass, to make it sound as if it is a "DU Only" thing is laughable at best

is to talk about Bernie and not talk about HRCs awful horrible unelectable REAL scandals and policies. that is all. if they can divert attention to a 50 year old photo then nobodies talking about clintons baggage. imho it wont work because ppl stopped caring about this sideshow shit when they entered the great recession.

83. It is Sanders

There are two separate picture issues going on.

This one is Sanders. The photographer has stated as such. The picture that is supposedly false is the "I Have A Dream" march photo claiming Sanders standing in the crowd, behind and to the right of King. Yesterday that one snopes was claiming that "there is no way to confirm it" and "probably false"... as of today it is a flat our "false", but no additional proof or standards are explained.

Either way, as we are seeing on social media lately, it is not only the tea party crowd that confuse facts and issues, and then run with a false narrative.

Peace!

The gentleman in the lighter colored sweater who is talking to Bernie in 3 of the photos in the OP appears to be the illusive Rappaport.

100. Is that really Rappaport?

Feb 2016

I wondered about that.

If that is so, then this further proves that Rappaport couldn't be the man in the picture standing up. Rappaport has a light colored sweater on!! The man in question in the photo is wearing a dark sweater with a white shirt underneath and showing through the cuffs.

All of those pics were taken on the same day.

Those four photos prove/demonstrate that that the photo is Bernie and couldn't possibly be Rappaport.
