2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumObama's poll numbers take a hit in We Ask America
But we have to remember:
1. We Ask America is reported to have GOP connections
2. These were taken after the debate and before the Jobs Report.
So hopefully they will rebound next week!

(19,458 posts)it's like there is this crew of people that only seem to post the worst things they can find, no matter how many times the rest of us tell you guys that these polls you find, are GOP-leaners. "we ask america" not exactly a non-partisan or scientific poll.

(4,551 posts)Making conspiracy attacks on loyal DU posters like me is not okay.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)People who have to continually assert their own loyalty and have loyalty "evidence" (look at my threads) ready to hand are amusing, to say the least.
Play your game, in any case. You can fool some of the people, and etc.
Have fun, champ.
TroyD
(4,551 posts)You badly represent DU when you attack loyal Democrats with your bizarre conspiracy theories.
I post an enormous amount of good news stories & attacks on Republicans and there is no 'game' behind it, 'champ'.
And the only reason I assorted 'loyalty' and 'evidence' is because you attacked me for no reason and LIED about my posting history just like Romney lied in the debate the other night.
Guess you didn't see all my cheering in excitement and predictions of an Obama win when the Jobs Report came out this morning, either.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)I don't trust you. Bottom line. You post "good news" with little digs thrown in so you can inoculate yourself for your constant snide GOP positions. I don't give a shit how saying that "represents" anything. I see the way you post and I think it's shit. Hide behind your "I post everything" strategy all you want. So there you go. That's my position. I don't think you're above board. Period.

(436 posts)They ignore the polls we post in which Obama is ahead or trending up.
They are good people, though highly susceptible to depression and anxiety due to the ups and downs in the race.

(4,551 posts)I won't let it discourage me.
I will continue to post constructive stories about the state of the race.

(10,920 posts)and that we sit in our little insulated cocoon of only good news. Some of us believe we should get out of our little DU safe haven and engage with persuadables and righties on mixed message boards. If we're only getting comforting feel-good news here, we are going to be ill-prepared.

(36,437 posts)"And the attempt to portray themselves as the purveyors of truth fighting against the Commissar censors? It's as lame as it is predictable."
Calling out abuse of the community is not the same as censorship. I understand that you want to portray any critique as censorship and a "good news only" dictum. Luckily, that's not what's going on, and the real abusers know it. It's just a favorable position to allow them to argue for more abuse.

(4,742 posts)Basically it is just a polling company of who listens to what. I could almost predict what my conversations with radio station managers would be after the ratings came out. Ratings up? It was the programming genius of the Program Manager and General Manager. Of course Arbitron "got it right!" If the ratings were down...it was Arbitron's fault and the sample had serious flaws.
It was like clockwork.
I don't ever have a problem with someone on here citing polls...good or bad. I'm big boy enough to read and decide for myself if I agree with something. I don't come to DU to "feel better" of have people lead false cheerleading campaigns. I come here for information. I don't think Troy should be attacked for posting something in a public forum unless he's blatantly a troll (which I don't think he is.)

(36,437 posts)"I don't ever have a problem with someone on here citing polls...good or bad."
Neither do I. The implication that I do is the reason I'm responding. As for blatant, we'll disagree on that.
TroyD
(4,551 posts)Have you been even reading my threads today? I just posted about half a dozen good news items, and even in my OP I pointed out that we shouldn't worry too much about this poll.
DemsUnited
(1,273 posts)Can't just ignore the ones we don't like. As Nate Silver does, we adjust them for bias, add to the aggregate & move on.
Jennicut
(25,415 posts)you post every poll under the sun, which I like.
TroyD
(4,551 posts)But I try to keep up with both the good & the bad like Nate Silver so that we know what's going on.
For example, on another thread which someone just started (who might get attacked like I was) it says RCP just took OHIO out of Obama's column because of the We Ask America numbers.
That was the whole point why I was giving us a heads up - it was to be prepared for the effect of this poll when it hits.
Btw, polls are only one part of my posts, as I outlined above. I'm working with Elizabeth Warren's online campaign and she's the person I most wanted to see elected after Obama so that's why I post a lot of threads about her, like the one by the MA Sheriff who calls out Scott Brown for his racial baiting.
From the way you were so down after the debate, there is no way you can be a troll.
Just keep giving us the info. I can be lazy and don't have to find it on the interwebs.
Elizabeth Warren will make a great Senator. I feel more comfortable about her prospects then I do Chris Murphy's. Brown and McMahon are very alike. I live in CT so I know MA well. I don't see the people there voting for Brown again, they made a mistake and many people there realize it now.
Thanks. I was so excited this morning when the Jobs Report came out. It was almost orgasmic.
That's why I posted the good news headline from CNN and all the excited emoticons.
I don't understand why we have a couple of DU "Truthers" here who think those of us who spend hours of our lives every day online reading polls, tweeting stories to supporters and trying to encourage good things about Obama and the Democrats would want to fake all of that only to insert some supposed 'negative' hidden subtext on DU. To do what? Effect the outcome of the election?
Take care. Talk to you later.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)It looks like you're smart enough not to call out others by name, unlike your buddy there. But I'll assume since he called me out in another thread, that you're also referring to me with your weirdo "Truther" claim. As it stands, I don't give a good goddamn what you post, so long as you don't go into full whine mode if somebody calls bullshit on it. Think of DU as a big party: I have neither the power nor inclination to throw anybody out of the party, but I'll be damned if I can't look sidelong at them when they track mud on the carpet and spill drinks on the appliances for their own personal fun.
Your question here is apposite, though: why would anyone do this sort of thing? Honestly, I don't know. I wouldn't pretend to know why trolls do what they do. I have never gone to a GOP board and tried to deceive them into thinking I was one of them. I don't know why people do it, and I don't care. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves if they are fooling others. Maybe they are actually extremely anxious about their own position. Who knows? My concern is that they are being abusive of our community, and if I see it, I'm going to say something.
I've been here, under one user name or another, since July 2001. That's before 9/11. That might be hard for you to comprehend, since you've only been here - what? - six weeks? Seven? Less than sixty days? Try eleven YEARS. But no matter. The only issue is whether you understand patterns. In sixty days, you are able to discern far fewer patterns than somebody who has been here eleven years. So let me fill you in.
Every election cycle - and I've been here for all of them; 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 - some group of so-called poll junkies sets up camp between 3 and 6 months before the election. It's like clockwork. It's predictable. It's pathetic. It's happened every damn time. About half to two thirds of those people either end up ha-ha-trolled-you! on election day (if it went bad for Dems) or just fade off by November (if it went well for Dems). This is the sixth cycle. You're nothing new. They all do the exact same thing: run up 1500-3000 posts in the few weeks before the election, posting the same little snide comments behind their mask. over and over it happens. People who do it have to be the least original people on Earth. And the attempt to portray themselves as the purveyors of truth fighting against the Commissar censors? It's as lame as it is predictable.
So maybe that's you. Maybe it's not. I don't really care all that much. Same as it's ever been, really. But I don't think we'll be seeing much of TroyD after November 6, whatever happens. Feel free to prove me wrong on that.

(4,742 posts)I think you are being a little judgmental and mean. The guy is posting information...which is exactly why I come to DU. I appreciate everyone posting information. If I don't want to read it...I don't read it. I don't attack the poster. Come on folks. Let's get along for Christ's sakes.

(25,415 posts)as a whole.
38/33/29 in VA R/D/I
34/32/34 in FL R/D/I
More Repubs then Dems in these polls are not accurate as a whole as even Ramussen is using a plus 3 Dem voter ID screen right now.
Ohio is 34/38/28 R/D/I and it is nearly tied in their polling (Obama a point behind).

(4,551 posts)But, you can find the numbers at RCP here:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/
Unfortunately they have already influenced the polling narrative by causing RCP to take OHIO out of Obama's column.
That's why I said in my OP to beware that this is a GOP-leaning firm.

(5,008 posts)Obama was leading +8 or more in most polls in the last week or so. I thought they add that in. How could two bad polls cause it to become a tossup again! Ugh....I want it to be solid blue so they can't steal it again.

That's now little traction it has here. And I agree that it's puzzling. I would give more credence to TPM that just about any other MSM organization.

(436 posts)Explain your complaint. Did the OP refer to RCP in his original post?
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)Their poll was taken, essentially, on just one day. The debate was Wednesday, but ended late into the night, making it very difficult to get any real read on the polls. So, that means this poll was entirely conducted on Thursday (since it was released today...Friday). That makes these polls absolutely positively worthless. Never do reputable polling firms just do a day's sample because noise can manipulate the data.
