Related: About this forumIncremental Change will no longer Save the Planet.
Nor our our children or their children's children future.
You all know on DU if you pay attention to
other forums than GDP
The planet is ill for human survival because of the way
the system works for now.
The solution is not capitalism............
You know that.......... admit it,
Wait.............. we could make money selling our national parks but first our water system like Flint
to ASSHOLES.

We can see that story ALL OVER THE WORLD.
This story we are living is not just an American nightmare on how we treat each other.
It is a battle that most don't realize that is happening when one of us are violated.
Violated........... Yeah ....not enough to drink pure
clean water........the planet, your sister, your brother............. You all have been witness to this or have read it in your news.
The system is broken..... and you and I know it
as do others
The Rich are protecting their turf ...but many have bought condos of their consciousness on the shores of profit that will be wiped away by reality.

(18,133 posts)20. The simple fact is that there is no more time for the bullshit, incrementalism, pragmatism ...
or whatever nonsense label they want to put on the "do nothing" agenda because they've got theirs. We are on the verge of significant climatological change and ecological collapse. If we do not start turning the ship now we are headed for a royally fucked future. I'm 50 and have an 8 year old son. I don't want him to have to live through hell on earth.
I watched the speech in this first video in this thread last night:

I've been a little extra riled up since.

For example, if hedge fund managers were held in contempt, rather than admiration, by more people then perhaps there'd be less damage done.

It tears me up to think how careless, how violent, we have been with this wonderful planet. I walk in the trees here in the beautiful PNW and I just say I am sorry to these amazing life forms. It just fills me with such a sense of shame that we all have elected to let assholes in almost every country on this planet think only about profits over the good of all of us living on this globe.
The saving grace is that Gaia will rid herself of us and slowly, cleanse herself and never host such a destructive guest again.

My paternal side.
Thank you for the videos.
Here is something to think over.
The Ojibwa has Seven Prophacies.
http://www.wabanaki.com/seven_fires_prophecy.htm
4th
One of the prophets said,
"You will know the future of out people by the face of the light skinned race wears. If they come wearing the face of brotherhood then there will come a time of wonderful change for generations to come. They will bring new knowledge and articles that can be joined with the knowledge of this country. In this way, two nations will join to make a mighty nation. This new nation will be joined by two more so that four will for the mightiest nation of all. You will know the face of the brotherhood if the light skinned race comes carrying no weapons, if they come bearing only their knowledge and a hand shake."
The other prophet said,
"Beware if the light skinned race comes wearing the face of death. You must be careful because the face of brotherhood and the face of death look very much alike. If they come carrying a weapon ... beware. If they come in suffering ... They could fool you. Their hearts may be filled with greed for the riches of this land. If they are indeed your brothers, let them prove it. Do not accept then in total trust. You shall know that the face they wear is one of death if the rivers run with poison and fish become unfit to eat. You shall know them by these many things."
Okay then came this
The seventh prophet that came to the people long ago said to be different from the other prophets. He was young and had a strange light in his eyes. He said,
"If the New People will remain strong in their quest the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a rebirth of the Anishinabe Nation and a rekindling of old flames. The Sacred Fire will again be lit.
"It is this time that the light skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. If they choose the right road, then the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth and final Fire, an eternal fire of peace, love brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race makes the wrong choice of the roads, then the destruction which they brought with then in coming to this country will come back at them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth's people."
Traditional Mide people of Ojibway and people from other nations have interpreted the "two roads" that face the light skinned race as the road to technology and the other road to spiritualism. They feel that the road to technology represents a continuation of headlong rush to technological development. This is the road that has led to modern society, to a damaged a seared Earth. Could it be that the road to technology represents a rush to destruction? The road to spirituality represents the slower path that traditional native people have traveled and are now seeking again. This Earth is not scorched on this trail. The grass is still growing there.

No, it would only lead to cuts in profits, which feed the political machine.
Oh, ok then.....never mind. I'll just go put my HEAD back in the SAND.

(6 posts)He correctly points out --and appropriately mocks -- that many of the GOP nominees are denialists. He needs to go even further on this. I'd like to see him connect the dots a little more for the American people for whom their remains any doubt that the whole planet has been held hostage by corporate greed. This corporate greed, which is ultimately at the root cause of massive corporate contributions to elections, is directly responsible for Exxon's unconscionable greed as laid bare in this amazing, and hopefully award-winning, expose: http://graphics.latimes.com/exxon-research/
I'd also like for him to be damn clear that, yes, creating a check on corporate greed is one of the primary issues he is running on, because directly addressing it will have a ripple effect on domestic and foreign policy.

Its a mega thing that is happening around us
but I guess we know that .

(28,125 posts)As they say.
We cannot continue business as usual and this is not a jab at Pres. Obama. We cannot continue in incremental ways if we are to buy ourselves more decades on the planet.
And someone with great courage must address a huge yet almost untouchable issue.
