2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy we fail.
We fight each other. It is that simple. We have two good candidates for President. They're different, but both will work for progress. I'll vote for either if he or she is the nominee.
We fight each other. We turn out in presidential elections, then get frustrated and don't bother to turn out in mid-terms. We lose ground in Congress each time we do that. We cripple our own President and then get frustrated when he or she doesn't get done what we want.
We fight each other and hold grudges. We really should stop doing that. Maybe if we did, we'd be able to win the White House, the congressional House and the Senate too within six years.
We fight each other. We lose.
I'm very weary of that pattern, which I have seen for my entire adult life.
We fight each other. Can we please stop doing that?

(23,664 posts)How do we not "lose" if we support a candidate who claims that only minor tweaks are needed to correct the situation?
We tried this in 2008. We fell for "change" that really wasn't. We should not do that again.

Hillary Clinton is a big step backwards. The republicans would be a ginormous step backwards.
That said, Obama has fallen way short of the expectations he created for himself.

(12,265 posts)If we cannot unite as a party behind our nominee, and get out the vote, Lord knows what the Supreme Court will look like in 4 years time. The first thing they do is repeal ACA, then dismantle any changes President Obama was able to get through. What they REALLY want is complete control of the Supreme Court and we are going to give that to them with a big red bow on top.
We need to fight the other party not each other. Both candidates are very strong, either one would be a great President and would fight to keep the Republicans from killing our country.

Odin2005
(53,521 posts)That is why we have primaries and caucuses, to give people a CHOICE about who is going to be the party nominee. The sneering about "divisiveness" almost always comes from the party Establishment in their smoke-filled rooms worried that people are not going to support their anointed candidate. it is scaremongering people into supporting the Establishment candidate by insinuating that primary contests weakens the party and will allow the other party to win.

(45,851 posts)In a recent thread even Skinner has admitted he fell for a Swiftboat lie against Bernie Sanders because he wasn't paying strict attention.
His whine was "I was busy and the mainstream media tricked me".
I saw plenty of people here pushing that lie for everything they could.

(21,804 posts)At that point, it's time for us to use our energies to support candidates for local and state offices who share our values - and to build up for the midterm elections by early support of House and Senate candidates who share our values.
Come January 2017 - it's back to the ground game.

As we struggle to put out best candidate forward we are strengthening our position, not weakening it.
