Hillary Clinton to Make Push for Black Vote

Hillary Clinton, who is relying heavily on black voters in her race for the Democratic presidential nomination, will outline her views Tuesday on how to break down economic and other barriers that hold back African-American families, a campaign aide said.

The aide said her speech will go beyond changes needed in the criminal justice system to include job creation, discrimination and the need to “confront the systemic racism that deprives too many of the opportunity to live up to their God-given potential.”

Given her failure to decisively win either of the first two states to vote, and the enormous excitement that rival Bernie Sanders is generating among many voters, Mrs. Clinton’s ability to keep black voters in the fold may well determine whether she is able to win the nomination.

She barely won Iowa and lost badly in New Hampshire, two states where more than 90% of the population is white, but Mrs. Clinton’s advisers say her strong support among black voters will help right her campaign. That begins in earnest with the Feb. 27 contest in South Carolina, where a majority of Democratic voters are expected to be African-American, followed by a series of southern states that vote in March.

I am glad to see she isn't taking the black vote for granted. Looks like this will be a major speech.

7. Hillary Clinton Continues To Distance Herself From Her Husband's Crime Policies

WASHINGTON -- A week after meeting with Black Lives Matter activists in New Hampshire, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton attempted on Tuesday to defend her husband's record on criminal and racial justice, while also acknowledging that the policies had disproportionately affected minorities.

Under former President Bill Clinton, the black prison population grew over 50 percent as violent crime rates peaked. In response, Clinton signed an omnibus crime bill in 1994 that established mandatory minimum sentences, even for minor offenses, and a federal "three strikes" provision that imposed life sentences for anyone convicted of a violent felony after two or more prior convictions. (The former president has said he regrets these policies.)

As first lady, Clinton strongly supported the legislation. She was careful to acknowledge this difficult history at a town hall in North Las Vegas on Tuesday.

"Decisions were made in the '80s and '90s to deal with what was at that time a very high crime rate that was particularly affecting poor people, people of color in the cities," Clinton said. "I think that a lot was done that went further than it needed to go and so now we are facing problems with mass incarceration."

"And now that my husband's crime bill, that I supported, has screwn you all over please forget that since I really am cough, cough sorry and stand for you...until the voting is over."

~Hipocrite Hillary.

Maybe that 48-52 split in New Hampshire is the shape of things to come.
