Settling for what is currently passable rather than what is ultimately possible is defeatism

If the horizon of political debate inside America remains defined by what can be gotten past Republican obstructionists in a current session of Congress, then they are the ones controlling the political agenda not just for this year, but for decades to come. The Right has been playing the long game since 1968.

so many people are currently in the situation of having to accept a a lousy job because they can't afford an education or because the jobs in their industry or region have been sold to the lowest bidder overseas.

so many have to accept that they cant have decent, affordable health care or worse must choose between food or heat and medicine.

settling for what is "passable" is not only defeatist its suicide

Let's make both the best they can be.

it will be accomplished because courageous and visionary Democrats started pushing for such laws in our Congress going back to 1974 when Ed Koch and Bela Abzug, Democrats from NY introduced the Equality Act, knowing that it would not pass then, knowing that it would one day pass and the sooner we started trying the sooner we'd get the victory. 42 years so far. Still no such law. This means you have to start early, stick with it and never wait until it looks easy.
Never delay the first steps toward justice just because the road ahead seems long and difficult.

We are the opposition party are we not? You never hear Republicans saying "Oh we can't go that far, the Dems will never allow it." Hell no, they arrogantly push their regressive agenda and ram it down the Dems throats. No please or thank you and never any apologies. Why is our side always bringing a knife to the gunfight? They circle the wagons when it comes to legislation or getting their nominees on the bench or going to war. It's long past time we started doing the same.
