2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnyone who thinks Trump will be easy to beat...
Is being kind of naive I think. I believe both Dem candidates could beat him, but it's not a sure thing. I do have my impression of which one's a better matchup. But don't underestimate him. He's a con man, yes- but he's a very good one. This is gonna be a fight. Maybe he'll self destruct- it's possible. But he hasn't yet. Be prepared for the General to be a dog fight. That means not assuming we can win while telling half of our side to fuck off.

(45,120 posts)The GE will be a real dog fight but I think it will be with Kasich.

(7,820 posts)Kasich would be very tough. And no, I'm not at all convinced there aren't enough people who will buy what Trump's selling that he couldn't win if he got the nomination.

(7,820 posts)If he doesn't he will not be the nominee and most likely would go third party and that's good for the Democratic Nominee

(231 posts)Trump might be a 'salesman' or whatever but he's got alot of people voting for him. He wasn't initiated into the GOP elite club so they will pull every trick in the book between now and their convention. Bernie would easily beat whoever they run. I haven't voted in my state primary yet so not thinking beyond Bernie as the DNC candidate at this point.

(7,820 posts)My gut says their side has the energy at the moment, and we should not underestimate whoever their nominee is. Don't assume you can write off half our side of the aisle and still win and be prepared for a genuine fight. If I'm wrong, no harm- we would have won but do better than expected. If I'm right and we aren't prepared...

(4,377 posts)My real worry though is that Cruz will get the nomination. That extremist bastard has managed to slip along seeming less extreme than Trump, yet there's no Republican that scares me more as a potential President. If he wins the nomination we need to declare war on the Republicans during the general. Total mobilization of Democratic resources and manpower and absolutely no quarter given. A Cruz White House would change America forever and that cannot be allowed.

(7,820 posts)But I actually think he may be the easiest to beat cause the more people see him the less they seem to like him. I wouldn't assume he'd be easy- but I think he'd have a more limited appeal than Trump or Kasich. JMO
