Bernie Sanders Overpacks Philadelphia Arena as Pennsylvania Poll Shows Him Surging

Last edited Fri Apr 8, 2016, 09:42 AM - Edit history (1)

A massive crowd of Bernie supporters has shown up in droves to attend his latest rally in Philadelphia, the largest city in the pivotal primary state of Pennsylvania. Enthusiastic voters have gathered outside the Liacouras Center at Temple University by the thousands. The below video says it all, showing a town square packed with people waiting to be let in.

Reports are coming in that the line for the rally could be as large as ten blocks long, ending at the cross street of Broad and Master about half a mile away.

This surge of support comes in the wake of a poll that gives proof to the massive momentum that Bernie has built up in the crucial state of Pennsylvania following his recent string of primary victories.

<snip>

And what has Senator Sanders been doing in the hours leading up to his latest rally? Supporting a local union by speaking at a worker’s protest against Verizon.

The entire lower deck of the stadium was already packed with multiple blocks’ worth of people still waiting to be let in.

Even the destination for the overflow of supporters, a practice arena set aside from the main location, has been packed on both sides of the rafters.

People realize something must be happening if all these people keep turning out. Then they want to find out what it is.

capacity of this center on a university campus 10K. It was filled to capacity, with a few thousand watching from outside.

For perspective: 12-14K would be literally less than 1 in 1000 of the city's population and less than 1 in every 4000 of the metropolitan area population of 6 million.

I wouldn't mention this if posts like this didn't pretend something that just doesn't exist. Kids cramming a college center don't indicate a national wave.

If Bernie had held it at Lincoln Field, which fills to capacity for football games, the stadium would have been 3/4 empty.

seem relatively small compared to the total local population. Barack turning +/- 60K folks out here seemed huge standing in the crowd, but was tiny compared to the 2+ million within easy driving distance. He did however win by 65K here....

Bernie surging in the polls in the weeks before the vote is a fairly consistent pattern, wherever he shows up. (not in Alabama).

The question that remains to be answered is whether the surge will be sufficient for a win. We will know in a few weeks.

But if people want to indulge in self-foolery that 12,000+ on a college campus is large in a nation where 500,000 turned out in LA (alone--not counting the millions in other cities) for the Hispanic immigrant support marches a few years ago, they should post it on the Sanders forum, where everyone will be verbally high-fiving it.

Accept it, the people are inspired and motivated by him AND have been coming out to vote for him in LARGE numbers.

Did you know that every state Bernie has won, there have been record turn outs and in every state Hillary won there was a LOW turnout? It's a fact.

It is hard for people to get their heads out of talking points and back into reality. But it is well worth the effort. I highly recommend it.

You are trying to compare apples to oranges to downplay his achievements. It makes NO sense to compare a speech to the population of the planet or anything else.

The only thing that makes SENSE, if you're interested in reality, is to compare 2 things that are the SAME so you can get perspective.

The reason they keep talking about Bernie's rallies is in comparison to OTHER PEOPLE'S rallies. And you see Bernie packing Yuuuuuge arenas to overflow and Hillary meeting in a foyer with 20-30 people. It gives you PERSPECTIVE, and tells you where the momentum is.

But some people don't want to ACCEPT that so they make posts to try to minimize this phenomenon, because they don't want to accept the truth of what is happening.
