2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton vs. Trump: Even their supporters don’t like them
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/election/article70343792.htmlDonald Trump and Hillary Clinton are unusually weak, widely disliked presidential candidates whom most people plan to vote against if the front-runners meet in the general election.
Most people whod vote for Clinton would do so because they want to defeat Trump, not because they actually want to elect her, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.
And most of those whod vote for Trump would do it because they want to defeat Clinton, not because they like Trump.
The winner? He or she is likely to begin the presidential term without the usual honeymoon period.
The winner would wind up one of the least popular presidents to take office in recent times, said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in New York, which conducted the nationwide poll.

(11,990 posts)but the voting population at large, not so much. Unfavorables over 50, even after accounting for the fact that Dems overwhelmingly view her favorably, which means she's WAY underwater outside the base.
(As for vote total, that's also skewed because the Dem primary vote has been split among fewer candidates.)

(2,450 posts)Had Bernie been running for president since the 90's, they'd like him too. Probably more.
Yours is not an apples to apples comparison.
Honestly, he can only gain supporters and always does, once they see through the bias and lies peddled by the Clinton machine. Once he has them, he rarely loses them.
It ain't over til it's over.
Edited to add: I agree about the base, I just think it's even worse than that.

(4,695 posts)Those that like her; are they voting to restart a huge war in the Middle East? Are Republicans for war? Very much so. How about that crowd that receives Medicare and Social Security? Bernie wants to expand. Clinton has plans to manage the way we receive the safety net. Does that mean a fee set up by her Wall Street pal Pete Peterson?

(12,081 posts)alternative? Time after time I hear "I like Bernie, but". But nothing, why would vote for someone you don't like when you have a choice? If it is because of fear that Bernie is unelectable, that has been proven completely untrue. He has won many caucuses and primaries and he is even now ahead of Hillary in national polls. Not to mention that he beats all Republicans in the GE polls. Have we really been that well trained by our 1% masters? Could we really end up with a President no one likes? It is so bizarre.

(3,190 posts)The lead she does is because 1) she is liked by a majority registered Democrats and 2) many Dems see her as the best chance to beat the GOP (polls show this isn't the case, quite the opposite), and there is a lot of fear about the possibility of a president Trump.
But the trend seems to be as voters start paying attention and getting more familiar with Bernie, support shifts towards Sanders.

(12,081 posts)before anyone would volunteer to be a Hillary delegate and there was only one spot to fill. The other 4 were Bernie delegates. And she was grumbling about schedules. I have to wonder if she will even show up at the county caucus.

(2,450 posts)She won't gain any suppirters, she can only lose them. While Bernie is new to most people, he can gain more and rarely loses supporters.

How in the hell is that smart on any level?!?!
How is that GOOD for the future of the Democratic Party and our prospects of winning the White House in November?
