... whether Sanders or the conference people made the first move, Sanders should not have let himself be involved in such an event in the middle of the primaries. It shows such a tin ear regarding perceptions and inappropriate involvement of a foreign country that one shudders to think what would happen to our foreign policy if he were president.

(12,754 posts)There is no "flap" except in the muddled minds of the Clinton fan club. They've devolved into picking up every piece of shit they can think of and throwing it against the wall -- just in the hopes than something sticks.
Sadly, it's all sticking to Mrs. Clinton, Mistress of Mud.

Seriously?
I am sorry HRC wasn't invited, but the Vatican just doesn't have a quarter of a million dollars to pay her.

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was invited to speak at an April 15 Vatican event by the Vatican, a senior papal official said on Friday, denying a report that Sanders had invited himself.
"I deny that. It was not that way," Monsignor Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo told Reuters in a telephone interview while he was traveling in New York. Sorondo, a close aide to Pope Francis, is chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, which is hosting the event.
He said it was his idea to invite Sanders.
A Bloomberg report quoted Margaret Archer, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, as saying that Sanders had broken with protocol by failing to contact her office first.
"This is not true and she knows it. I invited him with her consensus," said Sorondo, who is senior to Archer.
An invitation to Sanders dated March 30, which was emailed to Reuters, was signed by Sorondo and also included Archer's name.

Campaign cash cannot be used for out-of-country personal affairs. Unless this really IS a campaign event. ??hmm. I'm not sure if that's allowed at all.
Hope he doesn't have a lengthy layover somewhere. That could affect his conference timeline. Hmm.

And, you shudder at Bernies acceptance of an invitation to attend a conference?
I shudder at the thought of Hillary being in charge of foreign policy.
I'm delighted at the thought of Bernie making something of our foreign policy that doesn't consist of war and domination.

If you're going to use AIPAC to villainize someone, it might be a good idea to check whether or not your candidate also tried to perform the same exact behavior you're criticizing in others.

(115,781 posts)That's the central theme of Bernie's campaign and it makes perfect sense for him to be there. The conference will include scholars and officials from many countries and there will be no "involvement of a foreign country" in the sense of influence of, by or on a foreign government. Hillary wasn't invited. Instead, while Bernie discusses the idolatry of money, she will be attending that $350,000 fund-raiser in Hollywood at George Clooney's mansion. The optics suck for Hillary, which explains why her supporters' panties are in such a knot.
