(58,785 posts)This isn't an insult, just an explanation.
Bernie's joining a group of people from around the world with similar policy wishes in a gathering that will take place at the Vatican. The Pope will not attend, and there is no plan for Bernie to be able to shake hands for a photo.

(58,785 posts)He has a schedule, and meetings with dignitaries from around the planet are announced. There are undoubtedly secret ones for secret dealings, but an American politician needing to be photographed with the Pope certainly wouldn't fall in that category.
You know, the Sanders forum folk can pump this up for all it's worth to them on that forum, verbally glad-hand, claim every Catholic in America will vote Bernie for sure now, do group prayers for Bernie's spiritual awakening, whatever. That's what it's for.
But people floating propaganda balloons here in the Primaries forum should expect to get pins poked in them.

From the tone of some of these comments I expect that is what his blissed-out supporters believe.

(12,704 posts)...as mayor, Sanders never shifted his focus away from the lower- and middle-class citizens of Burlington. ..."

Bernies prime objective was to try to fight against the displacement of poor people, ... such Sanders-era initiatives as an inclusionary zoning ordinance that required developers to offer a percentage of affordable units, and the non-profit Burlington Community Land Trust, as concrete relics of the mayors power-to-the-people rhetoric.
snip
De Carolis is the executive director of the Turning Point Center, a non-profit, peer-run recovery agency that serves 3,000 people every month. When he would have town meetings,I was taken aback by the reception he got from people who were so far down on the totem pole that they couldnt believe that a politician would actually listen to them and care what they had to say. We all wanted a different America, thats for sure.

Without Bernie, youd see people in a lot worse shape than they are today. When people have a secure, affordable roof over their heads, they can get better jobs, keep their cars running, and get a better education. It all starts with housing, and Bernie understood that.

(4,640 posts)when Sanders became the Son of God? What the hell IS this?
So, given the thing with the carpenter nonsense, next you'll be saying "he was crucified and buried, and rose on the 3rd day", right?
THAT is what I'm seeing.
