... all in one interview.
Way to go, Bernie!
This guy's candidacy is way past its shelf life ....
Sanders remarks came after Wilmore asked him whether he believed the Democratic primary system is rigged.
Well, you know, Sanders said, people say, Why does Iowa go first, why does New Hampshire go first, but I think that having so many Southern states go first kind of distorts reality as well.
.....
Despite his Southern struggles, Sanders insisted to Wilmore that he can win the Democratic nomination, despite lagging by more than 200 pledged delegates. Our path is with the math, the Vermont senator said. We started off this campaign having to run in the Deep South

(45,120 posts)If you feel like driving you can drop it off. The Caucus sucks and we need to do away with that. But seriously how fucking hard so you think it is to mail those out ? If some states can do mail in ballots to say it's impossible is just ridiculous. How hard is it for the whole country to vote in November in one day? We do it every 4 years.
Blue_Adept
(6,400 posts)Doing that for all fifty at one time, yes, the logistics of the actual vote itself is fine.
The lead up to it? The logistics are simply impossible and would disenfranchise a significant number of people. And we're not talking about a single election. We're talking about time for candidates to get around the country, fundraise to do it, interact with local concerns, build connections to local politicians, etc.
This is stuff that has to be done gradually - partially to show that they're ABLE to build this coalitions.
I completely respect you as a poster and have enjoyed the sharpness of many of your posts. But in this area it's something that I think you're looking at very narrowly and not what's really involved. It's like saying a country should be run as a business in saying that the primary season should be run like a single national election.
Autumn
(45,120 posts)primary will disenfranchise a significant number of people? Do you think that caucuses are inclusive? Because caucus disenfranchise a lot and I mean a lot of voters, the voters who actually need to have a say in choosing who represents them.
So have a nation wide primary when the last state usualy votes or caucuses. The politicians can campaign as usual . Personally I think they campaign too fucking much, cut back on that shit and have nation wide televised debate, Their campaigns show nothing of their coalition building skills it shows what politicians owe them favors. It shows who can bullshit the best.

(47,209 posts)but also about the midterms? We are in deep shit because Dems do not pay attention to the midterms. UGH.
Autumn
(45,120 posts)in a nationwide elections where you decide on the President and etc and I think primaries should work the same way. Voting should be as easy as mailing off a payment for a bill. We wouldn't be in deep shit if we didn't make people stand in line for fucking hours to vote.

(53,833 posts)primaries in southern states early has been in place for several presidential cycles. It wasn't designed to thwart Sanders.
He should have joined that party years ago, worked to help get other dems elected, built up goodwill and thus gain super delegates and national recognition outside of New England, then the AA voters in the early southern primaries would have known who he was and he would have won some of those early primaries and he'd probably be in the lead now.
He chose to stay independent for all those years. It is what it is. He has to deal with it.

(13,431 posts)For many Democrats, Hillary is a known and well-liked person. If one of those Democrats walked up to the voting booth and saw her name along with Bernie's name and they knew next to nothing about Bernie, they are probably going to vote for Hillary.
If Bernie had spent more time campaigning in the south and introducing himself to voters, he likely would have performed better in the south.

(135,425 posts)This "So you" shit gets old after a while.
From the frigging LINK:
Black voters make up a disproportionate share of the Democratic electorate in those Southern states, and constitute a voting bloc in which Sanders has consistently underperformed. The Vermont senator has been more successful in smaller, whiter and more liberal states like Maine, Washington and Minnesota. Sanders has also been able to win a slightly larger portion of black voters in northern states like Michigan and Illinois, exit polls showed.
Despite his Southern struggles, Sanders insisted to Wilmore that he can win the Democratic nomination, despite lagging by more than 200 pledged delegates. Our path is with the math, the Vermont senator said. We started off this campaign having to run in the Deep South
Trust me, I know about running in the Deep South, Wilmore interjected.
Sanders laughed and continued. Since we got out of the South were doing pretty well, he said.
Now, it looks, to me, like SANDERS and TIME MAGAZINE (and anyone who takes note of the make-up of the electorate) is in that So you associate the Deep South with POC? category.
Why? The answer is in the ARTICLE: Black voters make up a disproportionate share of the Democratic electorate in those Southern states, and constitute a voting bloc in which Sanders has consistently underperformed.

(23,720 posts)To the freaking point of obsession. It's a sickness with her supporters and it's just as old and tiring watching HRC supporters twist and turn everything that is said into racist and sexist accusations. And If I can't put up with that- you can put up with the stupid shit I say back.
Else- feel free to use your ignore button.

Maybe if he'd tried appealing to that segment rather than dogwhistling about "white working men" he would have been better off.
He has only himself to blame for his clumsy, bone headed missteps--that continue to this day, with that kind of talk.

Come on, tick tock--I'll wait.
You made up that phrase and tried to shove it in my mouth. I didn't bite. Instead of slinking away, you came back at me with it again, like repetition of a made up lie somehow makes it true.
That's called trolling and it is an ugly thing to do--I suggest you cease, unless you're interested in cementing a bad reputation.

(1,446 posts)The good news is that Sanders is losing supporters every time he talks these days.
Interestingly, one of these friends had just returned from the Sanders rally, and was telling me how uncomfortable she felt with all the 'hateful group speak' (her words) she heard from attendees at the rally. She had previously said she was voting for Sanders, but I'm pretty sure she has changed her mind.

The south is more conservative and republican and favored the more republican candidate that is the distortion Sanders is talking about. It had nothing to do with race you are just projecting your own beliefs.

(23,720 posts)POC is not the first thing that pops into my head when someone uses the term "deep south" The words that pop in my head are words such as Mississipi, Alabama, hot, humid, farming, cooking, southern food.
And I do think it goes to show just how freaking obsessed HRC supporters are with using the race card and that their thinking that way actually exposes their own bigotry.

(1,662 posts)Sanders never mentions black people in the interview. The poster turned it into a POC issue when that is not the distortion Sanders is speaking if. The south is deep red dixiecrats conservative bible belt. Its going to favor the conservative in the race. which Hillary is.
