(34,845 posts)Your non-specific 'lot of dirty political tricks' is just a step on the way to acceptance.

(2,052 posts)or do you just analyze politics with them. Curious. This isn't 9th grade class President they are running for. Every dirty thing they can do is being done and it's not a fantasy

(34,845 posts)As far too many on DU seem to think. Again, it's a campaign. Of course our two candidates will try to out-maneuver one another and even -OH! HORRORS!- sometimes disparage one another!
Does all that count as 'dirty tricks'? Is the delegate/superdelegate system a 'dirty trick'? Is 'whore' a 'dirty trick'? I'd say neither of those are and it's dismaying to see so many expend energy and time on them.

(34,845 posts)Well, I like weird but in this case, I hardly see it as a 'dirty trick' unless you think all of New York's polls and workers and surrounding administrators are all in on the scheme.
I can safely say that's not the case.

Do I think she ordered these things directly and specifically? No. Do I think her implicit messaging through her campaign minions is to be as "creative" as possible to minimize Bernie's votes à la Rove? Positively. If you don't, you are surely not paying close attention.

(2,052 posts)I misunderstood and thought you meant that we have a clean campaign going on. I agree that every aspect of it does not require the dirty trick treatment

(34,845 posts)And sometimes they even DO stupid things. But it's the nature of a campaign. We spend far too much time on this site 'debating' about which candidate is more hurtful than the other. It's ridiculous.

(34,845 posts)Try to shape public opinion! If you can't ignore the bullshit and see the issues, or if you think the electorate in general can't do that, then I don't know what to say.

(34,845 posts)It takes a certain amount of ego to run for President. No one wants to take a laid-back approach and think they can be successful. It's too important a job.

(47,803 posts)But dominating this board with the misplaced use of a word by someone who spoke for about a minute at a campaign rally....And before that all of the Vatican obsession.
Hell, call Sanders a dirty socialist commie, defend out shitty healthcare system, argue about whether banks are too big or not....That's legitimate fodder.
But this fainting couch delicacy, "concern" for the logistics of Bernie's trip to Italy, his stuttering in an interview.....
It's crap. It;s stupid. We should't condone this kind of Real Housewives politics. .

(34,845 posts)A sensible thing to say on the topic is that the word should not be used and that should have been the end of it. It's not reflective of the Sanders campaign itself and we should be big enough to see that.

(34,845 posts)I don't see that the Clinton campaign has done anything other than be conversant with the rules and using those rules to their fullest advantage while at the same time trying to portray her opponent as less qualified to be President -in other words, the same things every campaign does during a primary.

(2,872 posts)yeah.
When a campaign enlists Lee Atwater-Lite (David Brock) to do the dirty work and pays hundreds of people to spread falsehoods on the internet, I would say there is a fairly good chance of dirty tricks

(314 posts)Bernie could introduce legislation to correct election abuses but congress will never go for it. As citizens we have the ability to introduce legislation to correct election abuses in our separate states and to bring it to a popular vote in 23 states. We lack direction and when We The People are not organized the Oligarchy rules.
