I proudly stand with Jim McDermott

A Seattle man accused of threatening to cut out U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott’s tongue now faces felony charges.

King County prosecutors claim Jasper K. Bell made the threat because he was upset that McDermott, D-Seattle, was supporting Hilary Clinton for president. Currently jailed, Bell, 27, has been charged with intimidating a public servant and telephone harassment.

Bell had been fixated on McDermott for some time before the April 22 incident that saw him charged, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Susan Storey said in court paper. Bell is alleged to have made threatening calls to McDermott before arriving at his Seattle office that day.

“In one phone call he demanded the congressman’s home address and threatened to cut his tongue out,” Storey said in charging papers. “In another call he stated that the congressman would not be safe, even after he retires.”

McDermott, a long-serving liberal, announced in January that he would be retiring after 14 terms in Congress. A competitive primary contest is underway for the seat representing Washington’s deep-blue 7th District.

Witnesses at McDermott’s downtown Seattle office told police Bell was yelling and spitting, and banging his fists against the office windows. He was arrested hours after that 1 p.m. incident. McDermott canceled a public appearance due to the threats, Storey said, and had his staff take extra security precautions.

If someone bombs a Planned Parenthood clinic, we don't excuse it by saying the person is mentally ill; we hold the religious diatribes he's been listing to at least partly responsible. Ten months of Bernie supporters saying that Clinton is corrupt, the system is rigged, the superdelegates are "in the tank",etc. probably didn't help.

Instead, shes winning pop vote and delegates...by a lot.

Like I said, Bernie has a lot of wounds to heal.

After I refused, obviously not wanting to encourage such cowardly behavior, the same user began asking me to post objectionable pictures. I refused, but was soon surprised that a simple picture of a child's hand puppet resulted in a hide of my post.

You can't be too careful nowadays. There are lots of creepy types out there who are clearly capable of the behavior described above. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them are guilty of the same sort of sick crap described in the OP.

I saw that puppet you posted and the way you're stalking AA posters. Bernie has made rampant racism acceptable in the Democratic party again. When I see his followers argue constantly for a return to Democratic roots, all I can think about now when I hear that is the party's long past involvement in slavery and Jim Crow. That is not the Democratic party I want to return to.

Between the racism and sexism and people threatening to cut the tongues out of super delegates, among all the other hate against the supers I'm seeing out there, I am really concerned about this "revolution."

I think of bullying as an instance where someone uses some kind of power or authority or advantage to harrass or intimidate another person. That does not seem to be happening here. I know several people who have been stalked and threatened by mentally ill individuals, and it's not much fun. It's very, very difficult to get the police to take action.

he needs. The fact he claimed to be a Sanders supporter is wholly immaterial to the incident. It is a shame McDermott appears to be voting against what the people want- and it is an indictment against the system we have. Which, ironically, is what Bernie is pointing out with his views and campaign positions. We should move to direct elections instead of this faux democracy. Just my humble opinion.
