DU Newbie needs some advice

Hello DU,

I finally decided to join in the fun. I found DU in 2008 when the world was enthralled by the Palin -McCain ticket. I thought the world had gone insane, and found folks on DU were of a like mind (both moderate and extreme views, all facets of my own political leanings!)

But finally,Thanks to the extremists , lying, racists, ideologically challenged, obstructionists, I have had enough. As an African American male who has had to deal with some of the covert racism that exist in the corporate world, I learned to deal with it, Water off a ducks back I guess. The overt in your face stuff, I was blessed to come out of without reacting ignorantly. The barbs they are slinging and the attitude they are showing to the POTUS- blatant disrespect and a direct slap in the face to a man who is the most qualified in the group. I came to ask for your help DU, so I will not get on my soapbox right now!!

Who is performing the polling in Columbus? There is NO DOUBT that OHIO is going for OBAMA this go round. I hear stories of jobs saved, created and protected all over Ohio as I travel for work.Health care issues that Obamacare resolved, troops that came home, finally. Black , White, Latino , mixed and Italian- sorry if I forgot someone - speak highly of the POTUS. My beautiful wife knows I love MY First Lady , I wear a I Heart Michelle Obama shirt all the time.

As an ex-service member ( US Army Signal Corps, 44th Sig!!) I am as jingoistic about my Country as the next man. I stand up for the anthem, sing along to Proud to be an American every July 4th, and shake the hand of EVERY vet and active duty soldier that I run across. I served so everyone here in America could fully enjoy being an American, so people who don't vote make me feel as if I've been punched in the face.

I joined today because I want to start a movement. Not just a Ohio movement. I asked everyone I know on my contact list and facebook page to snap a picture with a group of fellow voters who voted for Obama early, or even planning to vote on Election day to take a group picture and let's post some We are with Barack photo's. The timing is perfect because Columbus Ohio is having a GOTV rally at the Martin Luther King Center tomorrow from 10:30 until 12:00. I know that we here in Columbus Ohio are not going for the Sh!t from Mitt. Can anyone tell me if I can publish my DU email address as a place to send me their pictures? Any help on getting this set up so we can show our force on this is appreciated.

Thank you for being here to keep me sane DU, and I am priviledged to be a DU Newbie!

Joining a forum like this immediately before an election is just, well, poor timing.

DU can be as welcoming as the next place, but you've essentially chosen the most troll-infested, disruptive, and community-abuser filled days of the whole history of this forum to throw your hat in. Essentially, you're trying to sell ice cream on the coldest day of the year. Strike that: the coldest day of the century. It's not good strategy.

If you want advice, here's mine. Try this again in a month, when the very fact of your newness isn't an immediate signal for suspicion.

Welcome, in any case, for what that's worth.

automatically view a newecomer as a potential troll. We remember how much courage it took to post our first threads, and I found everyone to be supportive and welcoming. People may need DU NOW more than ever. Let's give them, a chance and not warn them away. When they are trolls, it becomes obvious pretty damn fast and they're tombstoned.

after the election. If someone's legit and sincere, we can certainly take a few minutes away from our usual frenzy and give him/her a hand.

and I had to admit that lots of times when others see it, I don't. Sure enough, the person whose defense I sprang to was booted out about five minutes later. I guess I just hate to risk alienating someone who might be a plus to DU, and who can benefit and learn from the knowledge that's rampant here. Plus I'm too trusting and never learn my lesson.

It really is a war zone right now. I like your idea, but it's crazy now. Keep up the good work for the cause.

I've been away myself, so it's not like I'm qualified to be the welcome wagon or anything, but it's nice to meet you anyway. I don't think that the DU inbox is for anything outside of DU, like on most web forums. Probably having things sent to your regular e-mail and posting them on your facebook page or setting up a free blog for them would work best. I agree about the disrespect that our President gets and that it's especially outrageous when you consider how well he conducts himself in office.

Create one like IHeartMrsObama@comcast.net on comcast or whatever your internet service provider is.

Or start up another Gmail or Yahoo account and use that.

I would avoid using your main account used by family and friends. A new account can be run for a while and discarded if it becomes abused.

Good luck. Welcome to the posting side of DU.

I guess I am wayyy more naive then I thought. I never thought a troll going this far with a ruse would be possible.

However, that being said, I thank you for the advice, I have finally got the nerve to join into the fray of the community, and after being caught up in the fervor of my own Patriotism and protectiveness for my two daughters I have finally decided to do something. This project may seem small minded right now, but I think it will give me solace and pride to show the world that we are NOT going to stand for RMoney's trash and disrespect.

I hope to post my project pictures before the election on Monday as a reminder that Ohio is for Obama!

We need to stand up or we'll have nothing for them to grow up for.
