Last day for early voting in NC: here's where we stand (numbers added)

Last edited Sat Nov 3, 2012, 09:17 AM - Edit history (4)

Heading into the last day of early voting--and last chance to register and vote the same day--the Obama campaign
is continuing the excellent ground game to get out the vote--AND--bringing in the high profile surrogates to
campaign in the state. Jill Biden was in Asheville (and Huntersville) yesterday; Bill Clinton is coming to Raleigh tomorrow;
Michelle is coming to Charlotte on Monday.

Yesterday morning there was a margin of 364,676 MORE Dem than Repub votes that had been cast.

The margin of Dem votes over Repubs now stands at 396,087

I will post the latest numbers from the NC Board of Elections when they have been updated.

See Post #11 for the numbers.

Let's turn NC Blue again!

A number of us voted early so we can spend election day GETTING OUT THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE. If you can get out three voters on election day it's a better use of your time on Tuesday than standing in line.

I was not giving Obama much of a chance in NC, but I have a lot more hope now with those numbers. Living here in Nebraska - the capital of Dumbfuckistan - it's easy to get discouraged.

Actually, Kansas might be the capital. It's a toss-up.

Nebraska has an outside shot of giving the President 1 EV. Also possible; Kerrey may actually manage to hold on to a Senate seat given up for dead, and John Ewing has a puncher's chance against Lee Terry for NE-2.

one time when we hosted a cocktail party prior to a Jefferson/Jackson Day dinner. He was quite down to earth.
Ben Nelson was there, too, (not impressed) and they brought JFK's speech writer--Ted Sorensen--with them.

We also met Mike Johanns before he started his political career as Mayor Mikey of Lincoln. Talk about an
unimpressive guy.

When we left Lincoln for Chapel Hill I told hubby the NE state motto should be "Ignorant and Proud of It".

I hope you guys can pull it out for Kerrey.

In red Harnett County, R early voters were mostly white, gray haired seniors - odds say that these gray hairs are just voting earlier and not new or sporadic voters.

Does Miz Molly have a crystal ball? Does Miz Molly know how many will turn out on 11/06?

My son would not be considered a LV in any poll yet he definitely voted for Obama. How many more voters are just like him?

Yes GOTV NC is key but definitely not as dire as Miz Molly is predicting.

I know. I want her to be wrong.

Most MSM seems to be reflecting what she is saying. Let us prove them wrong.

Do not forget one fact: Republicans will cheat, scare away, spread lies.

That needs to be taken into account.

Some day, we should also learn to overwhelm off-year elections so that we control the Congress and state legislatures properly. This is the reason all these idiots have raised barriers for us. Look at Florida. Their governor is a nut case and they have a veto proof majority.

Sat Nov 3, 2012, 08:58 AM
Nov 2012

2,511,458 votes have been cast

1,195,412 Dem votes have been cast

799,325 Repub votes have been cast

The margin of Dem votes over Repubs now stands at 396,087

Remaining registered Dems (not voted) 1,666,538

Remaining registered Repubs (not voted) 1,248,591

So, Dems lead by almost 400 thousand votes already cast AND have a margin of 417,947 more available voters eligible to still cast a vote!

We can do this, NC! Turn it blue!

These numbers come directly from the NC Board of Elections website.

We have 14 for Obama, three for Romney, and one unknown.

At least one of the three Romney voters has not voted. She may be all talk and no vote.

I'm a little tired of all the talk about republican voters being more energized than Dems. I think it's bullshit.

after getting so pissed at the Dems in 2004 for not standing up to election fraud and the Iraq war shit. We still both vote
a straight Dem party ticket.

We do have lots of active and retired military in NC--which, personally, I think has a lot to do with the high number
of unaffiliated. Hard to know how that will break this year--Jill and Michelle have made helping military families
a priority--Mitt is another multiple deferment from Vietnam guy--his sons have never served, etc. The brass tends
to fall Repub--but I'm not so sure about the enlisted folks.

Assuming the independents break mostly 50-50 (and that's an assumption, and a big one, I know).

It would mean that if 50% of the remaining Democratic voters get to the polls, then 100% of the remaining Republicans would have to turn out.

Am I correct on that? Hey, I majored in English in college.

If you don't hear from them today, I'd try calling them or swinging by. It's a crazy busy time for all OFA offices. (You can probably score some free bumper stickers and buttons if you go by in person. )

At my local one in VA, they are asking us to come in and work the phones and also be on-call for rides to the polls.

If you are willing to make calls, do be sure and let the OFA people know that. It's super easy as you aren't doing any 'selling' of Obama, merely calling Dems and asking if they've voted yet (OFA should have records of all early voters, so you'd only be calling election day voters) and if they know where their polling place is and if they need a ride. The energy in a campaign office on election day is amazing and so inspiring.

Thank you SO & fiancee much for being willing to help! So glad to have you on board!
