Marine's Facebook page tests military rules

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Marine Sgt. Gary Stein first started a Facebook page called Armed Forces Tea Party Patriots to encourage service members to exercise their free speech rights. Then he declared that he wouldn't follow orders from the commander in chief, President Barack Obama.

While Stein softened his statement to say he wouldn't follow "unlawful orders," military observers say he may have gone too far.

The Marine Corps is now looking into whether he violated the military's rules prohibiting political statements by those in uniform and broke its guidelines on what troops can and cannot say on social media. Stein said his views are constitutionally protected.

While troops have always expressed their views in private, Stein's case highlights the potential for their opinions to go global as tech-savvy service members post personal details, videos and pictures that can hurt the military's image at home and abroad.

A soldier could make a reasonable statement about refusing unlawful orders from COC, but as soon as he straps teabags to his forehead and turns it into a political clown show, he's shown he is not even making a principled stance, but rather taking orders from media perception fools rather than his CO. Such a person is not worthy to serve in the armed forces of the USA, the military does a service to themselves letting them go. Chain of command is priority one for real soldiers.

And those who are looking to recruit for terrorist acts can now look on facebook. Since he's a sergeant, he was probably in the service under Bush. What took him so long to post his mind?

Mutiny

1. revolt or rebellion against constituted authority, especially by sailors against their officers.
2. rebellion against any authority.

he does not have a right to express it publicly. The First Amendment has never absolutely applied to the military.

has a picture on his FB page of his tattoo which details the coordinates of all his "kills"

No words, just as damaging and disrespectful.

To question the legitimacy of the Commander in Chief. As someone who served for 29+ years there were CiC's I did not agree with politically but thats life. You suck it up, ruck up and Charlie Mike. This Marine didnt and should be charged
