2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIndictments and flipping super delegates represent the last hopes of the Sanders campaign.
Never mind the fact that Bernie could not convince enough Democratic voters to vote for him based on his message.
Bernie's only chance of winning the primary was to include non Democrats in picking the Democratic nominee, and that includes Republicans voting for Bernie because he would represent the weakest candidate against Trump. Even the polls saying Bernie is stronger against Trump include right wingers playing operation chaos.
Trump would love to run against Bernie rather than Hillary for all the reasons we have posted here in the past months.
The facts that Bernie wants the super delegates to vote for him even though he has won less pledged delegates and has less of the popular vote by 3 million votes and the that he needed Republicans to vote for him to win what delegates he has is appalling, given the air of moral superiority he and his followers demonstrate.

(5,761 posts)I don't see her beating Trump to be honest. She has too much baggage.
Dems are in huge trouble. Then you add in if Libertarians reach 15% to be able to get on the debate stage which is looking like it could be likely, this is not going to be good for Hillary.

I don't want to see Hillary indicted but wow she has skeletons in her closet. It's going to be a big problem.

(3,473 posts)It's only a problem if an indictment happens ... and there have been NO honest signals that any will be forthcoming. But right wingnuts and BS cheerleaders breathlessly hype everything posted on dubious websites.
If no indictments ever happen, it will be just another right wingnut smear job that went nowhere. And yes, this started because of a right wingnut smear job ... the multiple and neverending Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi! hearings relentlessly pushed by partisan Republicans and their fishing expeditions looking for something ... anything. If indictments do happen, we'll deal with it then. There is nothing to be gained by continuously pushing right wingnut talking points.

(5,761 posts)IMHO it's rather obvious that it's a problem if Dems have a presidential candidate who is currently being investigated by the FBI and whose story about this has been at the top of the headlines on local and national news for over a week now. This isn't good and it only serves to hurt things.
As far as proof goes;

See, that is what I don't understand, why do you all say the FBI investigation is a RW smear job when the FBI isn't Republican and actually falls under the jurisdiction of the Obama administration? The Judicial Watch case, ok, that I understand but this is the FBI and they are federal police. This is a big deal and the FBI only investigates criminal cases.

And as for Libertarians: They're just repugs who like to smoke dope. They'll pull votes from Trump, not Clinton.
Trump will lose spectacularly.

(13,431 posts)It seems like practically every Sanders supporter here on DU is openly wishing and hoping for an indictment.

(3,473 posts)"I am hoping for (indictments). You are completely correct." They used the word "them", but them was referring to indictments.
It was nauseating to see it like that.

(2,348 posts)How is calling someone a corrupt Republican going to convince them to switch their vote and undemocratically give him a nomination he didn't actually win?
It's stupid, moronic, asinine, delusion political strategy.

Pass the coffee please.
I don't think it matters what side someone is on at this point and that's the point Bernie is making. Overall, America sees politicians as untrustworthy and as sell outs. That's the thing, Hillary is the establishment and Bernie is hitting on that with how she has some very shady dealings. The speaking fees certainly play into that along how she is Wall Street friendly.
There's a lot of ammo there and Bernie is playing to exactly how America sees DC.
It's not as you say but rather targeted marketing & that is pretty darn smart. You relate the majority of American's.

(2,348 posts)At this point, the only people in the country who can give Bernie the nomination are the superdelegates. He has routinely insulted them, called them the problem, and threatened to sue their organization every time he doesn't like something. Angering the only people who can help you is stupid, no matter what else happens.

(10,650 posts)They now know Hillary committed serious violations State Department policy and lied about it the entire campaign. They now know she is under investigation by the FBI.
More than a few votes would have been different had that been known at the outset.
As for the last hope, every Bernie supporter hopes that the party wakes up and realizes what a huge mistake they are about to make nominating such a distrusted, dishonest and damaged candidate. There is nothing wrong with hope.
