2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm not an overly emotional guy...
But when Mr. Khizr Khan pulled out his well worn, personal copy of the United States Constitution and sincerely offered it to Trump to read, I think that someone had started cutting onions behind me.
I'm so glad to be alive to see and hear that.

(12,265 posts)I live in Oklahoma with some really conservative nuts. I can't tell you how many times i have heard "send them all back". This young man may well win the medal of honor when all is said and done.
This father and mother gave their son for this country. I shared this on my facebook page this morning and unlike normal days heard NOTHING from the peanut gallery, including a former coworker who I should unfriend, but seeing how she thinks helps me rationalize why we stay here, to try and change minds.
I hope they have find peace in some way. What a terrible waste of a fine young man.

(16,296 posts)those phony SOB's waved around for so many years with their hollow display of the USA flag and crappy lapel flag pins.
I left a site I really enjoyed when one of those sunny-day patriots said only Repukes are patriots and I reminded that crab-ass about my brother and relatives that gave up body parts and lives for their country. I truly hate their concept of what it really means to be an American.

(18,402 posts)it tore at my heart, too. Both sets of my grandparents were so grateful to become Americans (who wouldn't be if your very life and liberty depended on it), and never looked back to the countries they fled. And all their sonsmy father and his brother, my mother's brotherserved proudly in the military during World War II. Fortunately, and perhaps miraculously, they all came back, unlike Mr. and Mrs. Khan's son.
This is the real story of American immigrants. It is not the story painted by Donald Trump and the Republicans.

(18,402 posts)which of our families did NOT make it to the US as immigrants? We are all immigrants! A nation of immigrants. I was just lucky to know my grandparents during my lifetime, to remember with fondness their sometimes fractured English, their pride at being Americans and having their children and grandchildren succeed in life, and, of course, still to savor the smells and tastes of their foods (which I cook on occasion to bring them back a little, whether a Hungarian dobos torte and chicken paprikash, or an Eastern European brisket with potato kugel and apple cake).

I'm a Vietnam Vet, 11BRAVO, and I saw so many other sons die next to me for their support of this country. My heart goes out to this man and his family, and thousands more.
"Trump, you sacrificed NOTHING nor no one." In fact you were a coward from birth. I went, I served. Others, much better than you, gave their lives to fill your cowardly action.

That thing is clearly cherished in their family.

(57,063 posts)In this document, look for the words liberty and equal protection of law. Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending [the] United States of America. Youll see, all faiths, genders, and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one.
