Georgia is now a toss up state.

Clinton, Trump Tied in Georgia: Poll

After decades as a reliably red state, Georgia may truly be a battleground come November.

A new poll from WSB-TV shows Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in a statistical tie for the presidency among Peach State voters.

Trump, the Republican nominee, holds a narrow edge over Clinton, the Democrat, in the poll -- 45.5 percent to 44.2 percent.

Libertarian Gary Johnson took just over 5 percent of support in the poll and Green Party nominee Jill Stein came in with 2.5 percent.

I lived in GA for a long time and I live next to GA now. Racism is still very prevalent everywhere but Atlanta.

Everything in PA besides Philly and Pittsburgh is, well, Alabama, basically. But Philly and Pittsburgh carry the state. IF the GOTV effort is good. Same could be true in GA.

My hubs Georgia GOP family and mine who have voted GOP faithfully are now voting for Hillary. I used to live in GA and have come to believe this state will turn red before Texas...this year would be great...not counting on it, but soon it will happen. As for racism, I live in Ohio, there are plenty of racists here...those sort live everywhere sadly.

and there is huge Hispanic population here. Atlanta has been growing, but not so much the rest of the state. Democrats here used to drive to Florida to work the phones. Maybe this year we can work from home.

5. Virginia checking in

We also are an archipelago of reason in an ocean of hateful ignorance. Where I live, pickup trucks proudly flying Confederate flags still do a ride-through of my town on Friday nights, then trundle off to their backwoods stills and marijuana farms. Yet Virginia is now a pretty solid Democratic state. Many of those same rednecks were forced into cities thanks to losing their jobs, homes, and health care, where their votes are easily absorbed.

Statewide elections are now so reliably Democratic that one cannot expect to win a Democratic nomination for Senator without first being the Governor.

It's actually closer here than it seems. The right-wingers run their mouths loudly and consistently. The liberals tend to keep their politics to themselves.

Romney carried the state in 2012 with 53.3% of the vote.

I don't press my politics on anyone, because some of the "conservatives" tend to be vindictive and violent. But most of the people I count as my friends know where I stand.

Some were even closet Dems themselves. I lived in a nice middle-class /expensive area Town Lake in Woodstock before that Marietta...and yet the schools were awful. Not only were they weak in the curriculum, but they were huge and violent. I did not particularly like Georgia. I like Ohio way more. Don't get me wrong, there were some great people, and as I pointed out to another poster racism is not exclusive to the South...some of the worst I ever saw was in Boston. However, the traffic was awful took me an hour to get home...12 miles! Of course, the neighborhoods and tennis were great...love to play tennis and Atlanta is the tennis capital of the world. The neighborhood pools were great too. My kids loved them and white water was so close. We had season tickets every year. I miss that and my family who came because we were there and then we had to move for a job. My sis who is a Democrat married to a GOP who will not vote Trump and my brother and nieces and nephews are still there.

I live in a small town out in the countryside. Atlanta isn't too far away. I have access to all of the cultural benefits available in such a large city. But I don't have to run the rat race and live amongst the sprawl.

I do think downtown is getting nicer (and Buckhead is nice as well); so it's becoming more and more possible to live a true urban lifestyle in the city. Those Northern suburbs are for the birds, though, if you have to drive anywhere during the day.
