2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Will Be Next POTUS for sure.
Why?
Because not only has she, and luckily for everyone here, the WHOLE PARTY powerstructure havind her back undefectibly, but she also will get a vast reporting voting from traditional repukes, especially the « moral values» branch who DESPISE Drumpf! ( his gross comments)
And thoses aisles still run the southern RW states.
I think Drumpf is highly unpopular among Republicans
That is a good news for us.
She will, I think, be elected in a landslide.
At least US will avoid the nightmare of Civil War Axt II that would have occured with that Psychopath in Oval Office.

(3,226 posts)While I hope you are right we can not afford to let up too much is at stake.
Work like you're behind, but running like you're behind means taking chances. Play it safe, but outwork the other side.
The enthusiasm gap is what's going to do Trump in.

(2,992 posts)A party support for a candidate is ultra helpfull to win
Donald Trump hasn´t. He his also such a bad buisnessman that WS hates him also.
Hillary has this blessings when it comes to winning.
Also remember that, on Dem side, that would have Kerry had enough party support, he would have maybe won GE.
( left aside the Ohio fraud.)

(44,130 posts)They aren't interested in putting Palin in a suit in the White House either.
Additionally, In 2012 I spent months knocking doors for Obama. Talked to undecided Republicans who had never voted for a Democrat EVER.
They were torn up inside because they couldn't stomach the extreme rhetoric coming out of their party.
To give you one example, they were truly disgusted by the mainstreaming of talk of "Legitimate Rape"
I did everything I could to help them give themselves permission to vote Obama. Most of them committed to do so, especially after following up with them a few times after they had mulled it over.
How would you imagine those voters are reacting to the extremist rheoric coming from Trump?
Do you believe they will flock to him? I don't.
I notice many of your posts lately are sad and defeatist. I think I understand why, and I feel a lot of empathy.
But stakes are too high for us to be sad and feel defeated. The GOP wins when that happens.
We need to do everything in our power to get out the vote in this election. Democrats, Dem leaning independents and independents who may lean right but who recognize what a disaster trump is, republican voters who may be conservative but will choose country over a deranged ideologue because that's the right thing to do.
We get them to the polls, we WIN.

(58,724 posts)In 2012, Romney got 93 percent of Republicans.
My posts are not meant to be sad and/or defeatist.
Quite the opposite, I think a lot of work needs to be done to ensure a Clinton victory.
Personally, I think she would be better served in getting her base to turn out in massive numbers, specifically non-white voters, than trying to convince Republicans to vote for her.

(44,130 posts)We don't need every Republican vote to win. We need to peel off enough votes to help us win.
I do want to note that in my 2012 door knocking, we did waste time or resources on Republicans in general.
We just focused on Republicans who the campaign had identified as undecideds or persuadables. Majority of my time was spent talking to dem voters making sure they got to the polls, and registering new voters and making the case for voting Democratic.
So it was a very effective strategy IMHO. I'm sure there will be similar targeting w HRC campaign.
We agree 100% that lots of work needs to be done. And totally agreed on winning strategy, other than to reiterate that we have to pull in independents and sane Republicans.
And def can't take anything or anyone for granted. Trump could win if we do that.
For example I beleive non-white voters are probably the most highly motivated voters at this moment. They are not going to sit home. And yes the campaign can not take them for granted. I am sure campaign will not.
Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it.

(7,963 posts)From above that Trump is evil. They may not vote for her directly, but they will sit it out.

(81,304 posts)This is totally subjective and unscientific.
But I noticed a couple of indicators that suggest something going on.
I saw just recently, a news item that included a line about how a substantial number of GOPers, especially at higher levels of the party or of political achievement (like advisors to former Presidents) were quietly supporting Hillary and intended to vote for her. They were characterized almost like stealth voters.
There was also an article in, I think, the NYTimes, back just after Hillary won New York. The writer reported having walked all over this one part of New York City. Noticed literally NOTHING but Bernie manifestations. Bernie yard signs. Bernie placards in the windows. Bernie bumper stickers. Surprisingly, after the New York primary where she won, the writer dug down into the weeds. Turns out that same district went resoundingly for Hillary. The writer confessed to being totally surprised and confused. Sure didn't look that way, leading into the primary. The writer assumed Bernie would take it. But Hillary did - and by a lot.
The only conclusion the reporter could draw was that - well, maybe Hillary supporters were out there in droves, but they were just a lot quieter and less showy than the Bernie supporters were. Totally didn't expect the outcome. I've noticed that myself, just scanning the field unscientifically. It's amazing. I tend to end transactions in local stores by smiling, exchanging the "have a good day" stuff, thanking them, and then saying "don't forget to vote!" The few times I've silently mouthed "Hillary!" the reaction is the same. The clerk invariably leans in, glances around, and either nods her (usually it's another woman) head enthusiastically "yes!" or she mouths "yes!" It's almost like a best-kept secret that far more of us share than we even realize.
BUT NEVER MIND THAT!!!! I'm sure as hell not taking ANYTHING for granted!!! Cuz we HAVE TO win this.
Very encouraged to see how little Jill Stein seems to be moving the needle. Show her the DOOR! Or change her last name to Nader, for the sake of truth in advertising.
