2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPotential campaign problem: Clinton Time
Just like the Big Dawg's campaigns, Hillary's current campaign has established a rep for running on "Clinton Time," i.e., showing up for events at least an hour late.
I'm been waiting to watch on TV the rally at Johnstown, PA, since I know folks who live in the area, but it's just now started 3 hours late.
Many voters will take that as a slap in the face, especially if the venue is hot, cramped, and short on seating; Even more so if they had to arrange child care or get time off from work.
If HRC wants to show she respects and understands working people, she won't treat them as though their time has no value.

(4,187 posts)Have you ever had a doctor who made you wait for an hour each time you had an appointment, but when she finally saw you gave you all the time you needed and answered all your questions patiently?
If you had, you would know that this is not a reason for worry.

(3,226 posts)I am sure she is in local press meeting or such, but they just need to do a better job of timing her public appearances. I hope this gets ironed out soon.

(24,396 posts)waitng in line at the cashier. The people waiting know it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the future president.
More concern trolling, IMHO.

(7,113 posts)She has Lupus and such a long wait has to be very uncomfortable for her.
I also know the constituency in that area -- former Rep. Murtha (Dem) district that's now a GOP district. Bluer than blue collar. They work for hourly wages, so their time matters.
I made this comment in an interest to improve Hillary's ability to reach these people.
BTW, I've been a DU member since the year it originated. So, consider checking people's profiles before accusing them of concern-trolling.

(11,605 posts)I don't think I have ever been to a rally for any candidate that started on time. I don't know why that is, but it seems to be an epidemic.

(11,605 posts)I remember getting to a rally over 2 hours late because there was so much traffic getting there and still waiting over an hour. It was the last rally of the 2008 campaign and it was so worth it.

Heck, Jim Hightower himself was about 5 hours late getting to our anti-Bush rally in our little city.

(7,113 posts)Listen, I've donated twice to Hillary this week alone.
For the months since voting for Hillary, I've been defending her against both my Trumpite and Berniac friends and relatives.
But simply because I suggest being 3 hours late to a rally might cause Hillary to piss off fence-sitting potential supporters, you're rude enough to accuse me of being a Bush fan? Jeez, thin-skinned much?
Here's a tip: Not everyone who offers suggestions to improve the Hillary campaign is a disrupting troll, particularly not someone like me who's been in DU since 2001.

(90,690 posts)Bush, who was always on time (from what I've heard) was and remains one of history's major assholes. His selection ended our long national nightmare of peace and prosperity that we had with Bill Clinton -- who, according to the OP just couldn't manage to be on time, a trait shared, according to the OP, with his wife.
My experience is that one has little to do with the other. I hope you got around to reading my other post, the one about candidates scheduling many events in one day, and being subjected to the vagaries of everything from rush hour to weather.
But you go on being pissed at me and fretting about what the tardiness problem will do to Hillary Clinton's report card.

This is an area where people are more understanding but it does seem to be a habitual issue. That and the people showing up are often required to be there early. There's also more than one way to do it if it's going to continue to be systemic. Very small advanced team with an audio or video message depending on the venue. That alone would at least make time go a little quicker for those in attendance. Not the end of the world but an issue none the less. Many people are old school like me and we don't separate tardiness with a lack of respect.

(7,113 posts)That would be a great way of making good use of that time -- and, of course, announce those numbers to text to get audience members signed up with the campaign.
I think what ticked me off was when I heard on MSNBC that the reason the bus was so late was that Hillary had taped an interview with Fox News this morning and it went over. Why she bothers with them I'll never know!

(30,481 posts)A lot of Republicans are confused about what is going on in their party.
JaneQPublic
(7,113 posts)I hadn't thought about it that way.
I just hate the thought of having to tune into Fox News tomorrow morning to see the interview.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Fox is a major reason the Republican Party holds relevance today.
Even just an advanced team saying "Clinton is currently in the belly of the beast taking on the whole Republican outfit at Fox. Clinton fears nothing and is fighting for all Americans. Thank you for your patience, she is leaving no stone unturned."
Follow that up with her speech in China or campaign kick off from from NY. There are a lot of simple things they could do.

(115 posts)I too have expressed concerns about things - not as a criticism of our candidate but just to ask questions and mainly to be able to vent concerns to like minded people who can help alleviate the terror I feel at the possibility of a Trump in the WH. I don't know what people here react to these things negatively. I am new here I know - but is the expression of concern not allowed? I am not a troll either - I support her in every way I can.

(7,113 posts)Unfortunately, my friend in PA is one of a dying breed: not just on time but usually a bit early.

(23,156 posts)Yes, we all understand that there can be delays, but those doing the planning can be a bit more realistic about how long is needed to get between events.
Plus, if everything runs late, and the candidate herself ends her day some three or four hours later than scheduled, and still has to get up extremely early the next day, it does her a huge disservice.
And keep in mind that someone having the ability to nap at any time is almost always (maybe invariably) someone who is severely sleep deprived.
