Megyn Kelly thinks she knows why Donald Trump wants to change the debate dates

-snip-

"I feel that I have inside information on this, which will come as a surprise to some folks," the Fox News host told viewers Monday night. "I think it is about the ratings. ... To me, there's no doubt about it, because when Trump and I did our interview in May and I asked him to sit down with me for my Fox broadcast special, the No. 1 thing he wanted to know was what we were up against. And there was a very competitive show that got 17 million viewers that night or something. It was the season finale of something, and a main character was being killed off. And he's smart; he knows about ratings, and he says, 'They call me the ratings machine.' He likes big ratings."

The "very competitive show" to which Kelly referred was the season finale of CBS's "NCIS," the final episode for agent Anthony DiNozzo, played by Michael Weatherly. (For the record, DiNozzo didn't die; he just left the agency.) Anyway, "NCIS" did get 17.6 million viewers that night, dominating the 8 p.m. hour. "Megyn Kelly Presents," featuring the Trump interview, was the third-most-watched program in that hour, with 4.8 million viewers.

If Trump is such a ratings-obsessed master negotiator, why would he agree to go up against such a juggernaut?

Don't forget that before Trump agreed to be interviewed, "Megyn Kelly Presents" was originally scheduled for May 23 — a loaded night on the major networks that included final performances on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and NBC's "The Voice," plus a special, prime-time episode of the "Price is Right" on CBS. None of those three attracted as many viewers as the finale of "NCIS," but all three easily beat the number put up by Trump and Kelly the following week. It's impossible to know for sure what the viewership totals would have been if the date for "Megyn Kelly Presents" had remained unchanged, but there is a good chance that it would have rated last at 8 p.m. among the four major networks. Sad! By comparison, May 17 looked like a better date.

If you absolutely must watch a football game or Dancing with the Stars, many people can just DVR the debate to watch after the game is over, see it on the Internet at home or at a library, watch the rerun on C-SPAN that night or the next morning ... or just look at the live blogs on the NYT website.

Live watching is no longer an imperative.

I don't watch anything when it's aired (with the exception of the DNC Convention and soccer matches). The vast majority of my tv viewing is On Demand, DVR, AmazonPrime, or Netflix. Honestly can't recall the last time I watched a show the first time it was aired.

ANY reason will suffice for now, and next week there will be another and so on...

He knows that he has no plans and no serious proposals to present. The GE debates are nothing like the idiocy of the primary freakshows. He cannot stand on stage for 90 minutes and act like a petulant fool without major dammage to his polls (which are currently in free-fall and unlikely to get better with age).

He is also setting up the "election process was rigged" canard, so that he can soothe his whipped ass after the beating he is going to take in November.

Remember, he is the poster child for narcissism, and nothing, under any circumstances can EVER be viewed as a personal failure by Trump (3rd person reference intentional).

People underestimate how bizarre his thinking is. High ratings may be important for when he thinks he is going to be worshipped, but when he is preparing to be skewered, he is all about getting out of it altogether.

Schwartz told me that Trump’s need for attention is “completely compulsive,” and that his bid for the Presidency is part of a continuum. “He’s managed to keep increasing the dose for forty years,” Schwartz said. After he’d spent decades as a tabloid titan, “the only thing left was running for President. If he could run for emperor of the world, he would.”

The 3rd Republican debate went up against Game 2 of the World Series and beat it in the ratings...and now Megyn Kelly wants to pitch the bullshit that Trump doesn't want to go up against an early season Monday Night Game...please.

The only sports I might DVR is the Olympics, depending on what time it is on or how important it is to me.
