4. it's amazing what democrats need to do vs. what republicans can get away with

democrats need to be ivy league educated rhodes scholars with a genuine common touch, deep knowledge of all policy matters, and squeaky clean ethics. plus, they can't sigh or wear earth-tone sweaters or look funny in a tank, and heaven help them if anyone dies while they're in office.

meanwhile republicans can gleefully pass tax loopholes for big donors, commit sexual or financial crimes, demonstrate no more knowledge of issues than the average foxnews viewer, and the worst they face seems to be a temporary drop in the polls, usually more than made up by increased donations from rabid supporters.
