dont get me wrong, im ecstatic we won seats in the house and senate and im delighted obama won big. but now i want another election high. the pre-election excitement is intoxicating..

The sweet: Very happy PBO was re-elected but his coattails weren't long or strong enough in North Carolina.

Bitter, because NC's electorate voted in a Republican candidate for Governor and now has entirely Republican majority legislature, fracking on the table, tax cuts for the 1%er and the wealthy, cuts to public education and services for the poor, deregulation of God only knows what business, cuts/limits on birth control/abortion and women's health services - all of these things will be in our future and absolutely nothing can be done about it.

The GOP has free reign now to pass whatever crap they want in NC. Unchecked, no balances. I have the sinking feeling that voters will feel betrayed and will be looking for a clean, moderate candidate to come in and govern from the middle, not the fringe. We're going to have to be ready for that, we have to start now.

Standing on his platform of fiscal conservatism, the Gov. Elect requested executive security services and a State car and driver 2 months before he's even sworn in - unprecedented and so the hypocrisy begins to take form.

NC Dems are going to have to organize and begin sifting through and promoting candidates that will appeal to the electorate in 2014 and 2016. Wish we had some of POTUS' mojo here, we are going to need it!!

So no, no post election depression here, it's closer to post election anger and figuring out how to use that anger in productive ways.

Here in California the Democrats have a Super Majority in the legislature!! I can't fucking wait to see this buggy go into a higher gear with Governor Brown! This Nation has finally stepped into the 21st Century and even though I fully expect the Republicans to fight tooth and nail we are headed in the right direction in spite of them.

We of course voted massively for Obama against "favorite son" Romney (not so much favorite).

We got back the second Senate seat that we lost in 2010.

We reelected or elected 9 Democratic Representatives including Joe Kennedy with a 25% margin and John Tierney with a 1% margin.

But we also increased our margin in the State House, that was also overwhelming and the Senate stayed the same with 4 Republican Senators.

there is so much riding for so many people. those pundits make enough money to get the best health insurance, they can afford good homes in safe areas, they can afford any medication they need, they are very comfortable where so many are not and how they played with people's lives like that, is shameful.

Can you imagine a parent believing that the race was so close and thinking their sick kid may not be able to get the medical help they can from ACA right now, that they will not have it if Romney was elected?

18. My depression is limited to sadness that racism and bigotry won the day in NC.

I posted--repeatedly--about the Dem numbers in NC exceeding Repub numbers
by >800,000 voters. Looking at the final vote, it was quite clear that
racism played a role in the outcome in NC. Very sad.

However, I'm ecstatic about the national outcome with a clear
win for President Obama AND the Senate seats won!

I couldn't handle the anxiety of another election like that right now. Enough!

David Frum was on morning Joe and he stated it correctly. At a tea party gathering the members believe that taxes have gone up and that the gov't has paid out (i think the figure was $ 1 trillion) in welfare. And he tells them they are wrong. But they believe what their "entertainers" (as he put it) tell them.

32. I'm very depressed that Shelley Berkley lost in Nevada

That was a winnable race, the only one of that description that we blew.

Berkley was my congresswoman for a long time in NV-1. She is extremely loyal to the party, showing up at even the most minor events, as Jon Ralston correctly emphasized. I was very impressed that she spoke up loudly against the anti-internet gambling bill when it was disgracefully attached to a must-pass port security bill in literally the final minutes of the Bill Frist GOP lame duck senate in 2006. That bill has destroyed online sports and poker for United States residents, and all because Frist wanted some brownie points from the far right wing in case he ran for president in 2008.

Unfortunately, Berkley made some mistakes in this campaign. Somehow she allowed Dean Heller to get the jump on her in the Spanish media in Las Vegas. It might have been the only example in the country where a Republican benefited from that type of thing. Heller suddenly wasn't as strange or threatening to the Hispanic population and once Berkley had a bogus -- IMO -- ethics charge dumped on her in July, she consistently "won" the poll category of most ethically challenged. It was just enough to put Heller over the top. Berkley won only 85% of Democrats statewide and trailed Obama's margin by huge numbers in Clark County.

Sickening race. But I've got to say the Nevada GOP commercials are always effective in statewide races, far beyond what the Republicans run nationally. Every time I saw those spots I'd cringe because they were having impact.

Also, Berkley somehow decided she needed to be grotesquely tan this year, and with a weird new hair style that didn't match her facial features or the tan. You wouldn't believe how many cocktail waitresses or other casino employees would immediately mention Berkley's appearance when I brought up the senate race. It was an online topic also. That altered appearance might have been enough in such a tight race.

Only now am I coming out of the euphoric state of GOTV mode. And the fact that Obama-Biden won still hasn't sunk in. But I can tell you all that stress to prevent the Romney Ryan War on America Train from winning has affected me in ways I didn't think it would. PTSD it is not, but I'm quite emotional at the gravity of it all. Especially when it comes to PBO, our democracy, its traditions and the respect it deserves.

Our struggles moving forward will be mighty. So long as I feel I'm doing the best I can for our nation, I don't think there will be time in my schedule for depression.

You sort of feel a void after the election is over. After all the build up it's a bit of a letdown when it's over.

Plus, it makes me sad that I will never get to vote for Barack Obama again, and that it might be a long time before we have a presidential candidate I am this excited about.

After 2000, I'll never again look forward to pre-election excitement. Now I view politics with the same caution that I view the weather: both can be predicted, both can be pleasant and pleasing, and both can sneak up on you, take everything you have, wreck your life, and kill people you care about--especially if you don't pay attention.

So for me, it was like watching two hurricanes in as many weeks, only one blew in fluffy pink unicorns and free stuff from Rush Limbaugh's wallet instead of the usual red tide of war, malice, and corruption.
