Brava Hillary Clinton.

(35,015 posts)She did exactly what I wanted her to do - stay centered, needle Donald, then smile and watch him implode.

(1,967 posts)She called him Donald. He does not like to be called Donald. From http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/clinton-wins-historic-first-debate :
The debate hadnt even commenced when Clinton landed her first blow. Greeting her opponent onstage before they went to their respective podiums, Clinton said, How are you, Donald? Not Mr. Trump. (Everybody knows he hates to be called by his first name.) That may seem like a small thing, but with those four words, Clinton attacked his sense of self-importance and claimed her right to be treated as his equal. Once proceedings were underway, she called him by his first name throughout.
And from: http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2016/09/26/clinton_only_called_trump_donald_during_debate_in_a_major_power_move.html :
From her first recognition of his presence (Donald, its good to be with you) to her few pointed zingers (Donald, I know you live in your own reality, but those are not the facts), Clinton reduced her opponent to a casual first-name sparring partner.

I loved the line where Clinton talked about actually preparing for a debate that might influence voters for this most important contest.
But Trump has been coasting on family connections for his whole life. His misogyny led him to underestimate Clinton. I predict he will try the same bullying tactics again. He is far too old and set in behavior to change.

(4,558 posts)There's a difference between the audience one will have in a primary debate and the ones in a GE debate.

(42,641 posts)has some actual solutions. An uncritical audience. One hopes not the same as the electorate in November.

(55,894 posts)She had to walk a razor-thin line between "do this - but don't do that" and "do this- but not too much".
Not too passive, not too aggressive.
Be well informed but not too smart.
Be assertive but not aggressive.
And on and on

(11,833 posts)Focused, calm, prepared. She made her case for why she'll work hard toward reducing income inequality. She addressed the need for criminal justice reform, acknowledging & tackling systemic racism, equal pay for women, diplomacy over recklessness. She didn't let the the venal bully's interruptions take her off her message.
Things have gotten much better under President Obama. She will continue that legacy and expand upon it, addressing the importance of strengthening the middle class via increasing taxes on the most privileged, to help grow the backbone of our economy. Strengthen & improve & expand the Affordable Care Act! All the while remaining sensitive to the least advantaged. She treats each person the same. Every person deserves a government that works for them, with no favoritism.
I'm so proud of her too sheshe2. Be proud that you've spoken out in her favor. Like you've done for President Obama and his Administration. Like you, I've supported and had President Obama's back. Like you, I'll do the same for Secretary Clinton, if she becomes President. She's so highly capable. She's so highly experienced. She has the right policies for our time. She made her case just as she has always made her case. By being prepared. Confident in her desire to speak well of others like us.
Hope you enjoy a great day & rest of the week.

(83,799 posts)I will tell you something, both times 2008 & 2012 I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Obama was going to win. I wasn't here then but I was reading a lot of sites, this one as well. I was following closely. He had a brilliant team working with him, they had feet on the ground and they were prepared as they watched and listened. The only thing that shocked me about the win was the magnitude.
Hillary has a great team as well, and as the debates show, she sure does her homework with the help of her team. She has got the feet on the ground, they know what they are doing, they are registering voters and getting out the vote. Yes, I have her back now, lovemydog. So does he.
She's got this.

(83,799 posts)Those two have a very long history together. Some of it rocky? Sure. Yet both good people that love this country.
There is a deep mutual respect between them. Love and kindness is a very good thing. They have proven that.

(15,370 posts)expectations - which were MUCH higher for her than for him (for some, it was enough for him not to drool or fall off the stage) - and she did it with poise, grace, class, informed comments and some great shimmies!

Hillary, Bill, Chelsea, and family smiled, waved, and hugged each other as they made their way to a post-debate prep rally.
Trump, Melania, and the Clan were mostly tight-lipped and not smiling. Trump supposedly even got into an argument or two walking to his car.
The Trump campaign surrogates were busy blaming everyone but their candidate, and trying to explain and reshape what he said in the spin room.
Hillary's people were barely present in the spin room.

(28,799 posts)who just finally decided last week to vote for her (die-hard Bernie supporter, Hillary hater), loves her now. he is a true fan, was completely blown away by how good she was. he told me today he thinks she may end up being a better president than Obama.
i feel much better now. still scared because there are so many stupid and willfully ignorant people and there is still a predominant corporate media which does not have the welfare of the country in mind. but much better.

(4,642 posts)But always knew I would support whom ever ran the Democratic ticket. All progressives are behind HRC and they should be. Hoping independents follow and republicans who know deep down that Thump is poison. No matter how much talk or bloviating against voting for Hill, when it comes right down to the minute they make their choice in the booth, they will vote safe knowing that too much is at stake.

(129,163 posts)where she had to keep from busting out in laughter at his crazy responses. She did great stifling the laughs and handling his boorishness and rudeness. I.e., the split screen is purposely there to catch things like eye rolls, etc., and unfortunately, when you're held at a completely different standard, you have to have measured reactions to the crazy shit going on right next to you.
She was able to perfectly convey the "I got this and pay no attention to the man over there behind the other podium" look!

(83,799 posts)Loved watching him fidget and make faces, he has no sense of control. He proved himself to be the crass boorish bully that he is and he did it this time in front of millions of viewers.
You are right, she got this.

(12,448 posts)I had my heart in my mouth at the beginning; I know how these things can go. But she was absolutely brilliant; she lobbed a couple of zingers but mostly was calm and informative. She made Trump look like exactly what he is: a carnival barker. (Of course, he helped there!)

(54,414 posts)I wasn't an advocate of her candidacy originally, but when it became obvious she was going to run, the LAST thing I was going to do was under-estimate her intellectual capacity. I have experienced it first-hand a couple of times, and knew all along that if she got into the race, her competition was never going to be dealing with a lightweight.
Her competition for the White House isn't dealing with a lightweight now, either. It's Trump's own fault if he believes his campaign's fictitious drivel. The last thing Hillary is going to do is conform to some made-up image Trump's propagandists have contrived of her.
