He has a term limit of ten years, and assumed office in 2013. Unless he leaves voluntarily, he will be there along time.

6. Firing Comey after this would be viewed as retaliation.

We are looking at eight years of You-Name-It-Gate investigations. It would be a bad idea to even create the appearance of retaliation. That is just giving Republicans ammunition. We will see a lot of this stuff. Best not give the enemy ammunition to throw back.

This is the second time Comey has crossed the line regarding the neutrality and confidentiality of FBI investigation regarding Hillary.

This is political, and unprecedented - days before the election.

Obama can end this now.

Obama will not fire Comey. It would be seen as political retaliation by him. He is fighting for his legacy, which Trump will destroy.

Comey has gone rogue, and has sullied the name of the FBI - from both political spectrums.

Smugly unprofessional and blatantly political. Untrustworthy.

Should he be allowed to pick his next boss?

I don't think so.

The fact that remains that firing him would create a political firestorm. It is going to be bad, anyway. We should watch for his possible resignation.

Firing Comey doesn't make good political sense.

the fuckers will hold hearing on that. Good grief we need to give her enough dems to shut them down.
