Bill Weld: "I know her well personally. I know her to be a person of high moral character"

The Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee Bill Weld has defended the Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and said that he is "vouching" for her.

The former Massachusetts governor and Justice Department official, in an interview to MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Tuesday (1 November), said that he disagreed with FBI director James Comey's decision to publicly announce that the agency was looking into Clinton emails days before the election.

Well I'm here vouching for Mrs. Clinton," he said, "and I think it's high time somebody did, and I'm doing it based on my personal experience with her. I think she deserves to have people vouch for her other than members of the Democratic National Committee, so I'm here to do that."

When Maddow asked him about a press release from the Libertarian party that blasted Clinton over the latest FBI revelation he said: "We keep talking them through. I talk with Gary every other day. We're on different coasts usually, but we keep in touch. And yeah, no, I do not agree with that release." Weld indicated that voters in swing states, who don't want to back the Libertarian ticket, should vote for Clinton.

At this stage of the game, there is no good reason for Gary Johnson and you to stay in this race.

You have nothing to lose by getting out and endorsing Hillary.

I like Weld where he is; in a relatively high-profile position, speaking out for Hillary.

He's sure being nice for some reason.

I don't trust "privatizers" one bit or want them anywhere near our government for that matter.

who sees the coup d'etat being attempted right before our eyes by the likes of Trump/Putin/Comey/FBI/Wiki and is just as disturbed by it as many Americans are.

It's a big deal for him to come out so strongly for Hillary at a moment like this, as it will help her with millennial voters in swing states who may've been thinking about voting Johnson. Weld is also well respected overall with moderates and independents.

it's how he got elected in gov in a place like Mass, and was popular there.

I, as a standard center-left Clinton/Obama Dem would have no issue with someone like Weld in her admin. I like the guy, but would not want it to upset the left/Sanders people, so I guess it would depend on the role.

pretty clear that he's agreed to keep his word and remain on the ticket in exchange for campaigning for hillary instead. i respect him for honoring his commitment but at the same time understanding the urgency in this campaign and the danger that trump is and encouraging swing state voters to vote for hillary if it means stopping trump.

Well, Weld is a lot smarter and better at the whole government thing, but he's clearly still in the race because he (and probably HRC) thinks that his ticket is taking more from Republicans than Democrats.

Good for Bill Weld, who announced this to the nation after the Johnson Weld campaign put Weld's picture above a sleazy slur on Clinton.

Too bad few have heard of him outside of Massachusetts, or he might be able to have some real impact. Hillary could use a few non democrats of high moral standing defending her right about now to counteract Comey's letter. Weld as the former head of the criminal prosecution department under Reagan is considered a man of very high integrity.
