President Obama regarding the Hagel filibuster (skip to the 39:30 min mark)
President Obama answers questions in his second Google+ hangout from the Roosevelt Room in the White House.

(3,194 posts)The Senate rules allow them to filibuster ALL THEY WANT.
It's pretty funny watching the Democrats go into a tizzy over this. Plenty of folks here at DU saw this coming weeks ago.
I assure you, this is not unexpected for them, and they're fine with it. Means more contributions for the next election cycle coming their way.
And it's a club, that we're not a part of. If you think ol' Harry is worried about his position, guess again.

(16,350 posts)But maybe they should be. They don't fear this president as you can see by the way they try to jerk him around. I hope he's had enough finally.

What does the president have? The outdated "bully pulpit"? Puh-lease. The last time President Obama came out to talk about the debt ceiling, Boehner was given equal time right after.
The bully pulpit no longer exists except in the propaganda corporate media is marketing to the American people.

(24,721 posts)I think your first description, "mad", was correct! I could still see the anger in his eyes when he moved on to answer the lighthearted questions at the end, which lightened his mood.
I'd like to see Barbara Boxer take Harry Reid's place as majority leader. She's never been afraid to go against the tide & I don't think Turtle Head would have been able to push her around if she had been the negotiator for filibuster reform.

(15,438 posts)They knew Turtlehead would immediately try to obstruct the moment the time for a simple majority rule to change Senate rules passed. Yet, again, they acted like Charlie Brown trying for that football. Again.
I'm so sick of these spineless Democrats. And that excuse that "well, if we need the filibuster when the GOP wins power, it won't be there" is bullshit because IF THEY DID THEIR JOB, they could be guaranteed power in the Senate until kingdom come. But at this rate, yeah, don't be surprised they lose power. And everyone here knows that when Democrats lose congressional power, they'll NEVER filibuster a Republican President the way the GOP have been doing to President Obama!
With Democrats like Levin and Reid, President Obama must be asking himself if the Democrats even want power anymore.
