Related: About this forumRosen apologizes to Ann Romney
Several mini-news cycles later and after tripling down on her comments, Hilary Rosen apologized to Ann Romney through a statement:
Lets put the faux war against stay at home moms to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen. In response to Mitt Romney on the campaign trail referring to his wife as a better person to answer questions about women than he is, I was discussing his poor record on the plight of womens financial struggles...
As a partner in a firm full of women who work outside of the home as well as stay at home mothers, all with plenty of children, gender equality is not a talking point for me. It is an issue I live every day. I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Lets declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.

A firm full of stay at home mothers? Sounds like a plot device from a bad 80s comedy

And then to suggest that she was a stay at home mom? If she actually cared for her sons by clothing, feeding them, taking them to school, taking them to activities, etc. Then maybe I might consider her to be a stay at home mom. Until otherwise proved, the boys had nannies and chauffeurs taking care of their every needs.

(1,944 posts)when the truth is spoken?
The original statement (yes, it was poorly worded) was the truth - Ann and Mitt Romney do not have a clue when it comes to raising children in the real world.
"has actually never worked a day in her life ... she's never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing."
What is incorrect in that statement?
Ask women who HAVE to work HAVE NO CHOICE about this - even for many stay at home moms the statement rings true because Ann Romney has not dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing - that is fact.
No apology necessary and the faux outrage from the right - who don't give a damn about women - is sickening.

(71 posts)on CNN for saying " Anne Romney never worked a day in her life." I thought I was watching Fox News. Blitzer really grilled Rosen and was relentless in his pursuit of getting another apology from her. Hillary seemed vulnerable at times but her toughness emerged sporadically in an effort to defend her position. I wanted to see her STAND HER GROUND. I wanted to hear her say, regardless of the consequences, I am standing by my statement and I will not capitulate. But that didn't happen. Blitzer insisted that she apologize... And she did. Nevertheless, she did enough to slake my thirst for progressive waters but the hunger for progressive meat goes un- satiated!

(42,715 posts)I have first hand knowledge of how tin-eared she can be. Not the best attribute for a pundit/lobbyist, but its true. I remember when RIAA was going after Napster, Rosen testified at a Congressional hearing and was squarely asked whether a individual making a mix tape by copying a few songs for their personal use was guilty of copyright infringement, and she couldn't bring herself to say it wasn't. When she digs in, she digs in.
