Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett slammed for 'drug test' jobless claim.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett, already lagging in the polls, is taking heat for his claim that the states unemployment rate remains higher than the national average in part because too many of his constituents are on drugs.
There are many employers that say were looking for people but cant find anyone who has passed a drug test. Thats a concern for me, Mr. Corbett, a first-term Republican, said in an interview with PAMatters.com earlier this week.
Mr. Corbett made the comments after being questioned about his record on job creation. Despite a vibrant and growing oil and natural gas industry, Pennsylvanias unemployment rate remains stubbornly high 7.9 percent in March. The U.S. jobless rate is 7.6 percent.
A recent report from Arizona State University also alleged that Pennsylvania has slipped from seventh to 49th out of 50 states in job creation. The governor and other Republicans vehemently dispute those figures, but Democrats already are using them to bash Mr. Corbett.

(13,190 posts)Because of the Democrats running against him.I don't think Allyson Schwartz is the best candidate the PA Democrats could have put up.

(15,480 posts)Seriously, as per my 1st link, there are 3 potential Democratic opponents being floated by pollsters.
"Pennsylvania voters disapprove of the first-term Republican's job performance 47-38 percent (which follows a four-month trend of bad numbers for the incumbent). From the pollsters: Former U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak tops Corbett 48 -- 34 percent, including 45 -- 29 percent among independent voters: U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz is ahead 47 -- 34 percent, including 45 -- 27 percent among independent voters: State Treasurer Rob McCord is up 44 -- 35 percent, including 40 -- 30 percent among independent voters."

(9,791 posts)I'd go with Sestak if he tosses his hat into the ring. It's looking like that won't be happening.

(17,064 posts)His job approval numbers remain in the toilet...though don't underestimate the ability of the Dem Party of Florida to fuck this opportunity up. They're more concerned with keeping progressive liberals out of office than beating Republicans.

(15,480 posts)"Sestak will again face Pat Toomey in 2016 as he did in 2010 in an unsuccessful campaign in the year of the Tea Party Revolution in Congress. Sestak was elected to the House in a Philadelphia-area district in 2006 in the Democratic sweep of Congress."

(28,394 posts)Probably here on DU! Unfortunately, Toomey is up a little in the polls since working with Manchin on gun control. Of course, that could hurt him here in gun country.
