Male Fox News guest to female Democratic consultant: “Know your role and shut your mouth”

Bill Cunningham also asked Tamara Holder, "Are you going to cry?"

BY DAVID BAUDER

A finger-pointing political argument on Fox News Channel boiled over when a male conservative talk show host shouted at a woman to “know your role and shut your mouth.”

The man, Bill Cunningham, later asked Fox contributor Tamara Holder, “Are you going to cry?”

Fox on-air personalities on Friday were talking about the exchange on Sean Hannity’s prime-time show the night before. Commentator Juan Williams concluded that Cunningham “obliterated the line” of civil discourse in his argument with Holder. The two had been brought on by Hannity to discuss whether Attorney General Eric Holder — no relation to Tamara — had committed perjury.

Cunningham, sitting next to Tamara Holder in a New York studio, called her “one of the stooges of the left that will always be there to excuse away criminal behavior.” He said she had the “incurable fatal condition of liberalism that caused people like Eric Holder to be the consulary of Barack Hussein Obama.”

Since the services that bring FOX and others into your home are private corporations. There is no licensing required like for broadcast stations so the government has little leverage. If the government did enact legislation that allowed the censorship of FOX, what's to stop any administration from censoring thought you find agreeable?

Of course "Shut up and do as you're told" only applies to anyone who disagrees with them. We've seen multiple examples of this lately, from Texas to Wisconsin to North Carolina.

That said, someone upthread opined that Fox ought to be taken off the air. Fox News is disgusting, but here in the U.S. we don't just shut newspapers or TV stations down. That's the activity of a dictator, and this is Democratic Underground, not Dictator Underground.

What we do need to do is shape the national dialogue, shift things, and that takes a lot of time and effort and skill, and people will try to stop us. But you knew that already.

The bad thing is we who don't want them are stuck with them also. Gosh I wish republican women would wake the hell up and stop this maddeness.

have been in prison for 2 murders , like I read here. I remember when the Melendez brothers were on trial hearing about the women who wanted to be with them, that is one stupid idea .
some men walk around with huge red warning signs on them that women ignore, but are picked up by their friends who try to warn them and what I was told is "you don't know him like I do" or "he usually not bad he's just(fill in any excuse)" and since women are easily over-powered by men they ought to be more careful about whom they date.
how do they do that? well for starters not dating people already in jail for violence

As long as most of the elected officials in DC believe that the Patriot Act makes lawful what hadn't been before it existed, we won't win. But we can lose even more by not having eyes open in all directions. And women are under attack in nearly every state today. Even in a sophisticated, relatively socially liberal town like Newport Beach, despite being in CA, it attracts plenty of Koch Bros' money and might. You can see from the guy walking quickly shouting "Thank You Hoag", for eliminating elective abortions owing to a new partnership with a Catholic Hospital.

I'm quite visible in this video. I only just this minute noticed.

But I'm awfully suspicious about what nice things that rightwing rag has to say about Tamara Holder.

Right now liberal strategists are preparing campaign commercials perpetuating the mythical GOP war on women. Put Sandra Fluke and Tamara Holder on one side, and then splice in clips of Cunningham. Conservatives defending Cunningham will have as much success as Tamara Holder justifying the behavior of Eric Holder.

Rather than stand on principle, some conservatives have even tried to smear Tamara Holder with conspiracy theories that cross the line separating sane thought from lunacy. She has been accused of defending Eric Holder because they are related. He is not her father, uncle, or related to her in any way. Others have played the race card and claimed that she makes excuses for liberal blacks due to her 2006 sexual affair with Reverend Jesse Jackson. She vehemently denies having had an affair with him, and such smears are contemptible on so many levels.

Conservatives normally abhor boycotts, preferring to let the free market dictate behavior. Yet if conservatives are going to bash Hollywood and Washington liberals for sacrificing quality on the alter of ratings, they have to be open to the same criticism when guilty. People need to vote with their remote control. Hannity is a great program, but the next time Bill Cunningham is a guest, his carnival barking should be tuned out. A break for ten minutes to clean the bathroom grout would be more productive than listening to him.

Cunningham does not need a microphone. He needs either a sedative or a rubber room with white walls that he can share with Walsh, Chris Matthews, and others who confuse screaming personal attacks with constructive dialogue and discussion. The First Amendment gives them the right to yell at inanimate objects as sure as the drunk in the town square or the street vagrant unwilling to take prescribed medication. That same First Amendment also gives the rest of us the right to make moral stands such as calling out their bad behavior and then tuning them out altogether.
