Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Matt Bevin issued a response via his campaign mocking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) for coming out Tuesday against military action against Syria.
"Congratulations to Senator McConnell for finally coming off the sidelines and reaching a decision on Syria after Matt Bevin, all the other congressional leaders, and a majority of the public have made up their minds and it looks increasingly clear that the strikes won't happen," said Bevin spokeswoman Sarah Durand. "Perhaps we should call him Follower McConnell instead of Leader McConnell."
McConnell said military action is not vital to U.S. interests and criticized President Barack Obama as a "reluctant warrior" for his handling of the situation in Syria. His remarks come as the U.S. is exploring a diplomatic solution in which Syria surrenders its chemical weapons to the United Nations.
Bevin strongly opposes U.S. military action against Syria, a stance he reiterated in an interview with TPM on Monday afternoon.
