The Democratic Party needs to be about freedoms and liberty
because if they are labeled as the authoritarian party they will lose during the mid terms. Historically the United States political party polarities invert every so often where each party takes turns in becoming authoritarian. The Democratic party needs to avoid such a path if they want to win the upcoming mid terms and win the hearts and minds of the American people.
That is why what Snowden revealed and how the current administration reacted is resonating so much with the perception of the average American with regards to the American government even if that is not the reality.
