Eric Cantor Leads Congressional Trip To Asia

BY OLYMPIA MEOLA Richmond Times-Dispatch | 0 comments

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-7th, is on a nine-day trip to Asia with a Congressional delegation that includes Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, the chairman of the Budget Committee who was the running mate of former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Cantor is leading the delegation from April 18-27 as they meet with leaders in Japan, South Korea and China to discuss "economic growth and trade, regional security challenges and strengthening our alliances in the region," according to his office.

"While the situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate and Russia's aggression against Ukraine has raised new concerns about security in Europe, the United States must also remain engaged in promoting peace and stability in Asia," Cantor said in a statement.

"Our investment in Asia's future is an investment in our own prosperity. I look forward to a productive dialogue with Japanese, Korean and Chinese leaders about the importance of free trade and free markets, as well as our shared interests in promoting stability in the region and confronting North Korean provocations."
