How can ANYONE with a brain vote for the rethuglicans?

Last edited Tue May 13, 2014, 11:41 AM - Edit history (2)

They stand for nothing. They want to walk all over and destroy the middle class. They boast about their far right agendas, which leads us to nowhere. They hate (racism and ignorance) from the right is at an all time high. They constantly report lies in the media. Anyone watching FAUX news is now brain washed into thinking the lies are actually true. They don't believe in climate change. OMG, I could go on and on, indefinitely. So why do people actually support and vote for these idiots? You got me, but I'm pretty sure that there will never be enough of these idiots to actually win an election from here on out. Common sense will rule. I'm not worried about 2014, nor 2016. However, if no one votes to keep these idiots out of power, that can be a real issue. No one showed up for the dems in 2010 and we lost. Get the word out. GOTV

don't understand the "new" republican party and they don't understand the candidates. It's like a blind belief in some religion. And some still think they're voting for Eisenhower type republicans. I know some of them and they are unreachable, just a bunch of reflexes with no brain involved that automatically vote republican.

If the republicans wanted to nuke the US, these individuals would say, well, that's a good thing if Fox News told them it was OK. It's absolutely stunning to see this in action, especially if you really know someone and that's the way they think. And, these are not stupid people, it's the way they've been programmed to think, it's frankly quite scary and dangerous.

I know several of them. They are way beyond fixing. I find it surprising that when we Email/chat, when I make a valid point, he never agrees, and knows I am right. When I argue with him about his views and know I'm right, it's always the black man's fault. Worst president ever, blah blah blah. It's quite sickening to see.

primeval portion of their brain which is over developed and hence have unshakable beliefs, some even knowing they are questionable beliefs. Many/most have the ability to sift and sort between various points on a topic of discussion, but some can not physically do this and resort to primeval type thinking. I can provide some links if you want. When you encounter these individuals, it is really worthless to try to change their minds or even to have them consider alternative thinking about something. ... just as a note, this is applicable to a range of individuals, not just RW republicans.

Especially when it isn't countered strongly. On one side you have most of the media, radio, papers all spouting the continuous bullshit narrative of the repubs. On the other, mostly cowering "we aren't as crazy as them" politicians.

"common sense" is not to be relied upon. Isn't the republican bullshit narrative about how 'common sense' their policies are? They repeat it over and over, how the government has to be run like a business, how government is always less efficient than private industry, how capitalism would create a perfect utopia if only those nasty regulations would go away.

Unless this is countered, loudly, continuously, with facts, nothing will change. Even then many will choose to believe the bullshit narrative because it is seductive. You can have paradise, just screw over 'them'....

and the only viable alternative is to vote Republican.

Many wealthy capitalistic types vote R because they think D policies will decrease their wealth.
The insanity may gall them but still increasing their wealth is the number one priority and overrides every other consideration.

They don't vote FOR Republicans, they vote AGAINST Democrats.

And then there are the unthinking masses that vote for the insanity because they support it.

13. Simply put. There is a group of Americans who think the GOP represents their best interests.
Tue May 13, 2014, 01:08 PM

That interest varies depending on which group you ask.

Wall St./Bankers/ 1% --- Its all about taxation and concentration of power. Using their wealth to "own" everything, including and especially our Federal government

Southern Church groups --- its all about the Jesus and the Southern, Conservative, Evangelical rantings of preachers.

Out West --- its all about rural interests vs. urban ones.

White racists --- its all about race.

You're right, the GOP doesn't "stand for" anything. They have no policy stances that I can recognize, nor any plans to execute said "policy" They spend most of their time contradicting themselves and being generally confusing, at least to us the outsiders. If you're inside the GOP and Conservative America, it all makes sense.

Why?

Because those people are low information voters who get their information from one source (not necessarily Fox News). The GOP is very good at messaging to their various information sources, so the hypocrisy and contradiction can't be seen by the ones listening to the messaging.

Expose those people to more than one information source and the lid blows off.

The right's media mouth pieces know that if they start trying to corroborate their information with secondary sources, all their bullshit is exposed. So they rant as often as they can, about how "liberal" competitors are to keep the sheep in the fold.

I've been pushing conservatives to look around at other information than the one they're consuming. I start with "bashing" liberal media "elites" By "bashing" I mean I bring up, say Maddow and let them get all worked up about her, which is so easy to do I could set my watch by their freak outs. Then when the rage has passed, I quietly point out that if Maddow is so biased as to not be trusted, is it not true that say Hannity is also biased? And from there I apply the Socratic method and see where things go. More often than not I can get the conservative I'm speaking with to question their own news source as biased an manipulative. Once they question that they start looking at other sources and "POP!" goes the bubble. They're out of the echo chamber and off on a journey of discovery.

I'm not out to win people over to my liberal view, my goals are to see more critical thinkers. Liberalism, in my opinion, is very logical. Once a person begins to think critically, they begin to naturally follow logic and sooner of later they liberalize to some degree. Its better if they think they came to these ideas than it is to believe that I convinced them. The thought takes root in their minds and stays there.

It's straight out of "1984" - the Repugs don't have to stand for anything, just so long as they demonize a group, and then tell their followers that all that matters is defeating the "enemy."

The OP makes a very dangerous assumption (e.g. there's absolutely no way that sane people would want to vote Republican). The reality is that there are MILLIONS of Republicans who rationally choose to vote Republican. They're not all Tea Party or KKK members, and they don't all support the Club for Growth, but they don't like what they perceive as Government interference in their personal lives, and they don't like paying taxes for services that they don't see themselves needing or which they perceive as being inefficiently and expensively provided.

If you don't look soberly about what the electorate really is like, you're likely to make incorrect assumptions about how to appeal to them.

I'm not making any assumptions. I threw it out there. Yes, millions will vote republican no matter what? So what.

My point was that anyone with a brain, should be voting democratic. I do not understand why anyone would support the GOP with their slanted lies and opinions. They stand for nothing, No plans, no nothing. It's all about fear and making money. They only support destroying and controlling the middle class(voter suppression and don't support the unemployed).

So, why can't people(with a brain) see fault in this? And vote Democrat? Ya know, logic(and a brain) indicate don't vote rethuglican. They will do nothing for you.

As for appealing to them? I gave up. It wasn't worth my time anymore. They don't listen unless I watch Faux news, which I refuse to do.

"My point was that anyone with a brain, should be voting democratic."

YOUR perspective is that Republicans offer "nothing". THEIR perspective is that Republicans offer lower taxes and less personal interference ON ISSUES THEY CARE ABOUT. That's not an irrational perspective; it's just different. And if your assessment is that no person could rationally vote Republican, you'll never develop an argument to convince them to vote Democratic.
